Pentecost is June 9

Wear red and be aglow!

C ELEBRATING B RUCE & J ERRY

This Sunday, June 9, following the 10:30 service we'll celebrate bruce mcclung's 20+ years of music ministry among us and give thanks for bruce and Jerry's presence with us for these two decades. bruce has been named Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts at UNC Greensboro. He and Jerry will be moving to Greensboro later this month.

Bruce was baptized at Trinity by Bishop Waynick in September 1998. He has led adult education classes, served on the sabbatical committee, and together, he and Jerry have designed and planted many beautiful entryway planters for us. Last week, Cincinnati Mayor Cranley signed a decree making June 2, bruce mcclung & Jerry Defillips Day, in honor of their leadership in Citizens on Patrol in Westwood and their many other contributions to civic life in Cincinnati.

Please join us in honoring bruce and Jerry this Sunday.

S U S A N S T EI GE RWAL D T O GO O N DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO BRAZIL

At the end of this month Susan Steigerwald will join our Bishop and other members of our Diocesan family on a pilgrimage to our companion diocese of Brasilia. We have been in partnership with the Diocese of Brasilia since 2009. While there, the group of 15 will visit several parishes and join in the annual fiesta at the Cathedral. The group will be taking school supplies for the children in the Diocese and we will be collecting boxes of colored pencils for the students. If you'd like to contribute, please bring your contributions on or before Sunday, June 16.

Dear Friends,

For many months now in this column, I have been exploring practices for a JesusCentered Life and looking at the patterns of Jesus' life and the lives of his earliest followers. As we approach the feast of Pentecost this Sunday, it's a great time to reflect on the word "Go" because that is what Pentecost is all about. The disciples were so on fire with the love of God at Pentecost, that they could not contain themselves! The Holy Spirit compelled them to move beyond their comfortable little group and show the world the love of God they had met in Christ. They crossed boundaries of culture, class, and religion. They met with resistance in some places and they were changed by much of what they encountered. Because they had the courage to move into the unknown, their faith deepened as they experienced the love of God in surprising places. Their plans often did not unfold as they expected and often things turned out better than expected because they risked themselves and were seeking God in the world around them.

And of course that is our call as Jesus' followers too--to move from the safety of our sanctuary into the craziness, struggle, and beauty of the world, in order to partner with the God who is at work in the world.

This month we will have several opportunities to GO and meet our neighbors--on June 11 a group will journey to the Islamic Center in Cincinnati to listen and learn about the Muslim faith. On Sunday, June 23 at 9:30, Connie Betts will lead us on a walk in our neighborhood to look for places where God is at work. And on Tuesday, June 25 at dusk a group of us will go to the new Civic Park and hand out free water to our neighbors at the Movie in the Park. These events are further described in the coming pages. Each of these events is an opportunity to know our neighbors and see God at work in the world around us. Let's GO with grace and eyes open to know Christ and make him known through our love.

Faithfully, Mary+

Many Thanks

Deacon Dave Guilfoyle is taking some time out of active ministry to discern his continuing call to ministry. He will be away engaging in prayer, conversation, and reflection over the summer. Please keep him in your prayers during this time of discernment.

God our Father, you have a plan for each one of us. You hold out to us a future full of hope. Give us the wisdom of Your Spirit so that we can see the shape of Your plan in the gifts You have given us and in the circumstances of our daily lives. Give us the freedom of Your Spirit, to seek You with all our hearts, and to choose Your will above all else. We make this prayer through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

CELEBRATING OUR HEAD START STUDENTS

We wrapped up the year with our Head Start families with graduation in late May. The end of the year celebration was the best attended so far, with 37 of the 40 students participating with their families. Many, many thanks to our hosts for the two parties -- Amy Marqua, Penny Schenk, and Susan Steigerwald. Thank you as well to Amy and Janet Burton for hosting our monthly breakfasts with the parents.

One of the parents wrote a Google review following our graduation celebration: "This CHURCH and the ladies that I have got to meet at Trinity, are some of the most

wonderful people you will ever meet! Thank You all for what you all do for all of the kiddos that attend the S.I.E.O.C HEADSTART CLASSROOMS L1 AND L2 IN LAWRENCEBURG,INDIANA and their families ."

In May we also hosted a special gathering at which parents were trained in the use of Narcan. Thank you to Kelly McDaniels, the nurse from Dearborn County Health Department who led the training and Lee Fox, CMHC recovery coach, who spoke to the group about resources for recovery.

F A I T HF UL I N N OVATI O N S GETTING TO KNOW OUR NEIGHBORS

For the last several months Connie Betts, Amy Marqua, Janet Burton, Deacon Dave and Vicar Mary have been participating in a program in the Diocese called Faithful Innovations. The focus of the program is to engage more deeply in our communities. We have been listening to God in scripture, listening to each other, and listening to our neighbors. This month the group invites parishioners to join us in two opportunities: On Sunday, June 23 at 9:30, we will spend about 20 minutes walking in the neighborhood around the church to discover places God is at work. Just show up if you'd like to join us. On Tuesday, June 25 we will go to the movie at the new park together and also pass out free water. Please sign up if you'd like to join us.
