DATE:13 January 2021POSITION TITLE:Animal AttendantLOCATION:SPCA Dunedin CentreREPORTS TO:Animal Care Team Leader/Veterinary NurseDIRECT REPORTS:NonePURPOSE: To provide for the physical health and behavioural needs of all animals housed in the SPCA Dunedin Centre as rostered to ensure that they are provided with the five freedoms outlined in the Animal Welfare Act 1999. To maintain accurate documentation and provide assistance and excellent customer service to the public as required.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide effective care for all animals in the SPCA centre in units rosteredEnsure the proper and appropriate care of all animals under SPCA care. Ensure units are kept hygienic, well maintained, stocked and tidy. Conduct socialisation and handling of animals according to the SPCA policies. Ensure all animals in SPCA care are provided with adequate food, water, shelter, enrichment and exercise according to expectations. All animals receive the appropriate level of care and veterinary instructions are carried out and recorded including medicating and other procedures.Work is completed according to the protocols detailed in Animal Care and Cleaning Processes.Ensure that adoption units are tidy and clean before 10:00am and that all units and yards are kept clean and tidy throughout the day.Ensure correct cleaning procedures to reduce the risk of disease transmission.Ensure the thorough assessment of incoming animals for your rostered units at time of admission. This includes but is not limited to:Ultraviolet lampingFlea and Worm treatmentsNose – Tail examinationMicrochip scanningCustomer ServiceProvide assistance and excellent customer service for members of the public with enquiries as required.Guide customers through the entire adoption process as required. Assess and match them with a companion best suited to their needs and lifestyle. Advise them on the animal’s individual requirements and ensure all relevant steps have been taken to complete the adoption.AdministrationEnsure that all admission, departure, treatment, behaviour and observation records are maintained accurately and in a timely and detailed manner.Shelterbuddy database is kept up to date as necessary and any issues are corrected as soon as possible when noticed.Timely and accurate information is available for Veterinary staff as required.Monitor boarding booking systems to ensure accurate record of incoming and outgoing.Personal and Continuing Education Education opportunities are sought proactively for self. Development requirements are signalled in advance to the Centre Supervisor. Competence and skill level is maintained to perform role(s) to highest ability.Meets objectives set at annual performance review.Keep up to date with changes required for the role.Education / Promotion of SPCA brandMembers of the public / animal owners & carers are consistently given good advice and appropriate information which seeks to improve or maintain welfare of animal(s), whilst maintaining the image of the society as a caring organisationPositive feedback regarding SPCA is consistently received where anticipated.SPCA ‘brand’ is protected and promoted at all times.Actively contributes to Health & Safety Ensures that a safe and healthy working environment is maintained at all plies with Health and Safety legislation and regulations.Takes responsibility for your own health and safety and ensures no action or inaction on your own part harms others in the workplace.Contributes towards the development and implementation of policies and procedures that ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act (2015).Is aware of and can identify hazards and risks to which the organisation may be exposed and takes appropriate action accordingly.
