5135880-243840“Chloe was born May 1st 2003.? At 3 months old Chloe started having pale episodes that lead us to the pediatrician to diagnosis her with a heart murmur.? A cardiologist then diagnosed Chloe with Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), which is a hole between the top two chambers of your heart.? When Chloe reached 24 pounds we would schedule her to have the ASD fixed by inserting a plug via a cardiac catheter from her groin up to her heart.? Our family spent a full year trying to help Chloe put on weight. When Chloe was 3 months shy of her 3rd birthday she reached her goal weight of 24 pounds!? We quickly made an appointment with the cardiologist.? To our disappointment the Cardiologist that was going to do the cardiac cath informed us that Chloe's hole in her heart was too big to be fixed by his procedure and she would need open heart surgery immediately.? Chloe's heart was working so hard that the right side of her heart had become enlarged.? Four weeks later Chloe had open heart surgery.? After surgery the surgeon informed us that Chloe's hole in her heart was the size of a quarter.? That is pretty big considering that she was only 24 pounds.? Chloe recovered so much faster than we could have ever imagined!? She was home by Friday the same week and didn't have a cold for 9 months after the procedure!? Chloe's right side of her heart returned to normal size and she isn't on any medications because the surgery was the cure for her heart defect.
