Unit 3 Web Sites - Saddleback College

Circulation and Nervous Web Links Human Anatomy

Lab Unit 3 Saddleback College

Compiled by Dr. Jane Horlings

I’ve organized this with mostly web sites with cat dissections first, then hearts, then brains, eyes, models (sites with only models) and then histology. Presuming that the cat dissection web pages will be helpful in the dissection of the mink, as structures are very similar.

Circulation

Circulatory System. Excellent photographs and quizzes on cat circulation and sheep hearts.

Photo Gallery of Anatomy Models. This rather bland-looking list of models links you to great photos of the models with numbers. Roll your mouse over the model for the name; this is great! You can quiz yourself, then see the answer, one by one...You can also click for other options (upper right corner).

Saddleback Professor Charlie Harrison’s Human Anatomy Home Page. Useful photographs of cat dissections (look under Unit III).

also pictures of the board with Charlie’s drawings (from back in the days when we had a blackboard in the classroom!

and

Internal Organs. Despite the name, this section focuses on the circulation of the cat, with great photographs of the vessels. These are perhaps the best photos of the cat to study for the practical, associated with good descriptive materials.

Web Anatomy Cardiovascular. Good diagrams to print out for self-quizzing, and online quizzes. From the U of MN.

Learn Your Arteries: From LUMEN “Learn ‘Em.” Good diagrams and quizzing, but a bit advanced.

Troubled Hearts. Dead and dying hearts!

Check out for tutorials on the heart, and major vessels. They also have sections on the brain, too.

Nervous Systems and Sense Organs

The Nervous System and Special Senses. The cat nervous system and sheep brains in photographs. Has an interactive quiz to identify structures. From Penn State. Includes eye and ear model, too.

Nervous System. From Bluegrass Technical College; great links to the brain and spinal cord (models just like ours!).

Dissected Sheep Eye. Photographs to quiz yourself.

Cow Eye Dissection, from the San Francisco Exploratorium.

The Cranial Nerves. An overview, then specific information on the cranial nerves from LUMEN.

Models

Photo Gallery of Anatomy Models. Scroll down to Nervous System, Sensory System. Great photographs, many different models, different angles of each! I especially like the “Chocolate Brain.”

Brain Model. Click on the thumbnails of the brain models to see an enlarged image. Click on “Label” to see the same image with labels. Great site, as they have the same models as we do!

Special Senses. Great dissection of the cow eye, and eye and ear models. Scroll to the bottom and click on “Check Your Answers” to see labels on the diagrams.

Flat Models. They have the same flat A&V models, click thumbnails to enlarge, click “Label” to label. Great site!

and click here for the same with vessels in the torso models. This will be great for studying for the exam!

Brain images also seen in the Sagittal Head Models:

See ventricles, as well

and Spinal Cord Models:

Heart model. Mouse over the numbers to see the answers. Internal, external, posterior, anterior views.

Histology

JayDoc Histo Web. The University of Kansas (the Blue Jays) Histology site. You can choose from relevant systems (vascular, blood, eye & ear, nervous) to view photomicrographs.

Color Images of Histological Sections. Click on the appropriate topics: blood vessels, eye, nervous system, peripheral blood, from the University of Delaware.

[pic] There are videos of cat dissection on YouTube. Watched a few on sheep heart dissections, cow eye dissection, but they weren’t that great. Please let me know if you do find any that are useful. Just search for words like cow eye dissection, sheep heart dissection, or cat blood vessels.

[pic] There are also videos on . For example, there are 4 on circulation that are pretty good videos: Upper Arterial System, Upper Venous System, Lower Arterial System and Lower Venous System. Try a search, like “heart dissection.” If you find others that are useful, please email me!
