3-D Cell Project
3-D Cell Project
Your project is to make an original cell model. Remember that cells can have many different shapes, colors, and sizes (FUNCTION). As you begin to make your model, look at some of the cells that are found in your science book (nerve cell, amoeba, euglena, paramecium, etc.) to give you some ideas.
There are 2 parts to the Cell Project. Part 1 is to make an imaginary 3-dimensional cell to be completed at home. Part 2 is to select one of the ideas given that will be used to present your new cell to the world which will be completed in class.
Part 1
GUIDELINES FOR BUILDING YOUR CELL MODEL
1. Make a 3-dimensional cell from materials that you can find such as clay, paper, pine cones, play dough, plastic, etc. NO edible cells please. DO NOT make cells out of anything you can eat or that will spoil. After the model is made, label the cell as follows:
Animal cell: The following parts must appear and be labeled on your cell model, along with a key that describes the organelles function, job, or purpose:
1 Cell membrane
2 Cytoplasm
3 Endoplasmic reticulum
4 Mitochondria
5 Nucleus
6 Ribosome
7 Lysosome
8 Golgi Complex
Plant cell: The following parts must appear and be labeled on your cell model, along with a key that describes the organelles function, job, or purpose:
1 Cell membrane
2 Cell wall
3 Chloroplasts (remember that these are green in color)
4 Cytoplasm
5 Endoplasmic reticulum
6 Mitochondria
7 Nucleus
8 Ribosome
9 Vacuole
2. Give your cell an original name and function (what it does) and tell me if it is a plant or animal cell. Tell how its shape helps it to perform that function. This is the time for you to use your imagination further. This must be displayed, on a notecard, by your 3-D model.
Name 10 points
Type of Cell: Plant or animal 10 points
Function of cell designed
and organelles 80 points

Part 2
PRESENTING YOUR CELL
1. Wanted or Missing Poster
Make a “wanted” poster or “missing” poster for your cell. Include the following on your poster:
• A physical description of the cell with photo or drawing of cell
• A list of what it does
• Where it was last seen
• Where it might be at this time
• List the reward ($) being offered for finding the cell
• Who to contact if the cell is found
2. “Sell Your Cell”
Make a poster that advertises your new cell. Include the following on your advertisement:
• What can your cell do (good or bad)
• Photo or drawing of the cell
• A catchy phrase or slogan to promote your cell
• Your audience (who are you trying to sell it to and why)
• Cost of buying the cell
Presentation grades from part two will be based on the following:
Organization 40 points
Presentation 20 points
Creativity 20 points
Writing Mechanics 20 points
(grammar, spelling, etc.)
