First System of classification-
• Aristotle
• All living organisms were broken down into two groups- plants and animals
• Bad system because it was not specific enough (too many living organisms)
Present system of classification-
• Linnaeus- a Swedish physician
• Broke down living organisms into Kingdoms
• There are 5 Kingdoms-
Animal- A
Plant-P
Monera-M
Fungi- F
Protista-P

Animal- Lion, Wolf, Eagle, Horse, Starfish, Whale, Spider
Plant- Oak tree, corn, apple, grass, rose bush, lettuce
Monera- bacteria, blue-green algae
Fungi- moss, mushrooms, mold
Protista- amoeba, paramecium, algae
There are more groupings in Linnaeus’ system. They start with Kingdom……..the largest grouping---->and each group that follows gets smaller and more specific.
