Everyday Carry Gear: The 11 Items I
Carry With Me At All Times.
Compliments of
Jason R. Hanson and
Dear Friend,
The fact is, having the right gear in your car, in your laptop bag, or on your
person could save your life in an emergency¡.
And even in a non-emergency the right gear makes life a heck of a lot easier.
Right now, I¡¯d like to share with you my everyday carry gear ¨C the 11 items I
carry with me anytime I leave the house.
1. A Gun ¨C Unless I¡¯m going to a place where I can¡¯t carry a gun (the post office,
a courthouse, the state of California) I¡¯ve always got a gun on me. I have four
guns in my current carry rotation. These include a Glock 19, Smith & Wesson
M&P 9mm, Ruger LCP, and Smith & Wesson model 642 revovler. For full details
about how I carry these guns and the holsters I use you can check out my book,
The Covert Guide to Concealed Carry, which is available on Amazon.
2. A Knife ¨C Just like I mentioned about my gun, I¡¯m always carrying a knife on
me, unless I¡¯m in a place it¡¯s illegal, such as on an airplane. I have a few different
knives that I carry, and these include a Benchmade 9100, SOG Flash, and
Kershaw Vapor II.
3. Lock Pick Set ¨C I carry a credit card size lock pick set in my wallet at all times.
Once you learn how to pick locks (which I teach during my Spy Escape &
Evasion course) you¡¯ll be amazed at how often you put this skill to use. (It¡¯s
saved me a number of times.) Also, because I get this question often, lock pick
sets are TSA approved and you can carry them on airplanes, which I always do.
4. Cell Phone ¨C I don¡¯t need to explain this one too much. It¡¯s common sense to
have one on you in case there¡¯s an emergency¡ just make sure yours is always
charged.
5. Bobby Pins ¨C Bobby Pins are used to escape handcuffs and to pick locks. I
carry at least two Bobby Pins everywhere I go, and in the Spy Escape & Evasion
course you learn exactly how to use these to quickly escape danger.
6. Hair Barrette ¨C These are also used for escaping from handcuffs, and the hair
barrette is my favorite tool to use in this situation. I carry two hair barrettes on me
just like I do bobby pins.
7. Parachute Cord Keychain ¨C On my keychain I have some paracord. During
Spy Escape & Evasion you learn the amazing uses of paracord from simply tying
objects together to escaping certain restraints.
8. Handcuff Key ¨C I carry a handcuff key on my keychain just to make life a little
easier if I was ever handcuffed. (I do have my bobby pins and hair barrettes too.)
9. $200 to $300 in cash, including a $100 bill ¨C If you ever find yourself in a
tight spot, a little bit of cash could get you out of a major jam. Plus, being able to
flash a $100 bill will motivate a lot of people to help you out. During Spy Escape
& Evasion I share stories about this and expand on the importance of carrying
cash on you.
10. Flashlight ¨C I have several pocket flashlights including the Olight T-10 and
the Foursevens MiniX 123.
11. Tactical Pen ¨C This is one of the most important self-defense tools that I
carry on a daily basis. There are places I can¡¯t bring a knife or a gun, but my
tactical pen goes everywhere with me. For full details about the tactical pen, visit
.
Those are the items that make up my everyday carry gear. During the Spy
Escape & Evasion course I teach, I share with you the other gear I use, including
my laptop bag gear and the two survival kits I carry in my car.
Obviously, what you choose to carry daily is up to you and you can pick and
choose from the list above to find what works best for you. But like I mentioned
earlier, your everyday carry gear could save your life in an emergency so plan
well and be prepared.
Stay safe,
