BIOME RESEARCH AND PRESENTATION PROJECTS

Each team is going to be assigned a specific biome. The teams will then spend a few days doing research about their biome. After taking notes and gathering lots of information, each team will prepare a classroom presentation.

The presentations should be designed to last from 4-5 minutes and should include the following:

• A 20 to 30 word outline which is to be written or typed and given to Ms. García. Make sure to include key terms in this outline (Keep it short! These outlines will be provided to your peers so make it simple, yet informative).

• A PowerPoint or Google Presentation. You can be as creative as you want using words, pictures, and diagrams to help everyone understand your biome. You might want to include a food chain or a food web based upon your biome.

• Students should know their topic so well that they do not have to read their notes while presenting. Speakers (everyone on the team should do some talking) should talk loudly and clearly, and make good eye contact with their audience. Each student will be allowed to have one 3 x 5 index card upon which they can write key ideas for their presentation.

• Here are some of the questions that should be answered during your presentation:

1) What are some of the abiotic (non-living) factors that are the cause of your biome. For example, what kind of temperatures does your biome experience?, how much rainfall does it receive?, what kind of soil type does it have?.

2) Where is your biome located around the Earth?

3) What kinds of producers (plants) are found in your biome?

4) What kinds of consumers (animals) are found in your biome?

5) What makes your biome interesting or unique?

6) How is your biome being harmed or destroyed by human activity?

Remember, presentations should be well organized and easy to understand. They will be graded on a scale of 0 to 30. Whatever score your team gets, everyone on the team will get that number of points. Good luck and have fun.

Here are the biome assignments for each team.

Team One: Arctic Tundra

Team Two: Grassland ( prairie, savanna, steppe )

Team Three: Chaparral (Mediterranean climate)

Team Four: Desert

Team Five: Coniferous Forest (boreal forest, taiga)

Team Six: Tropical Rain Forest

Team Seven: Deciduous Forest (Broadleaf Forest)

Team Eight: Estuaries and Fresh Water Biomes (Wetlands)

Team Nine: Ocean Biome (Saltwater Biome, Marine)
