ADVANCED PLACEMENT ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

2019 - 2020

AP ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

SUMMER ASSIGNMENT

Textbook Assignment

• Read and take detailed notes on Chapters 1 & 2. You may handwrite or type your notes. Feel free to include replicated diagrams from the textbook in your notes. You may not make direct copies of textbook pages and insert them into your notes. I will check to ensure that the notes you have are your own work.

• Be prepared for a process grade “pre-test” on Chapters 1 & 2 on the second day of school. You will be allowed to use your notes on this pre-test. The pre-test will have a mix of true/false, fill in the blank and short answer questions. All questions will come directly from the textbook chapters. Again, even though it is called a pre-test it will be a process grade for the lecture period.

As an AP science student, it is extremely important that you read the corresponding chapters for each unit. It is a class expectation that you are reading the textbook chapters at home. These two particular chapters cover review material from your basic Biology and Chemistry classes. The goal of the pre-test is to ensure that students read the corresponding chapters and come to class prepared to take part in discussions and lectures and then ask questions for clarification. You will always be allowed to use your notes on chapter pre-tests.

At the end of each unit students will have their own individual notes as well as lecture notes and class activities/labs to study for the final unit test. All students should have sufficient material to ensure a passing grade on final unit tests.

If you have any questions, please email me at dowlingd@calvertnet.k12.md.us.

I look forward to seeing you in September!

Have a great summer!

Just a little bit of important information:

These are brand new textbooks.

Please be sure to keep them covered and do not misplace them.

I’m sure you do not want to have to pay to replace a new textbook!
