Illustrated Memory Map Project: AP Psychology Chapter 6 (Memory)

Directions: This memory “mapping” project is designed to help you practice and solidify your understanding of the different types of memories that we have throughout our lives. Your job will be to create an illustrated map of your most prominent past, present and “future” memories from your life. The memories should be real (or projected in the case of future memories) , however, if you can’t find a school appropriate memory that fits in that category, you can make one up to fit. Each memory should contain 2 simple pieces, an illustration of the memory and a short caption of that memory. (Example: A picture of a wedding dress and a caption stating “My wedding”). The layout should resemble a “Road Map” and go in chronological order of when the memories occurred.

Must-Haves: You must include 4 memories, 1 from each category for each of the 4 time periods of your life.

Types of Memories: Time Periods:

Semantic Explicit 0-7 Years Old

Episodic Explicit 8-14 Years Old

Implicit Procedural 15-Present

Flashbulb Memory Future

Assessment: Project will be worth 50 points and must be completed on paper or poster board (no electronic projects, although illustrations and captions may be computer generated). Project will be assessed for both accuracy and creativity/neatness. Project is due January 27th (B Day) or January 30th (A).

A memory mapping graphic organizer has been provided on the back of this sheet to help you in organizing your project. The graphic organizer is NOT a required component although may be helpful in helping you to organize your map.
