|Course Description: Introduces basic vocabulary, grammar, idiomatic expression, verbs in the present and past tenses as well|

|as the life and customs of the Spanish-speaking world. The emphasis throughout the course is on communicative proficiency |

|and the development of the four language skills—listening, speaking, reading and writing—in a functional context. |

|Realidades 1 – Prentice Hall textbook and workbook |

|Pencil or Pen (Blue or Black ink only) |

|3 ring binder with dividers |

|Goals: |

|A. Listening Comprehension |

|1. To be able to understand instructions, simple conversations, and simple stories in Spanish (primarily in the present |

|tense). |

| |

|B. Speaking |

|1. To be able to pronounce Spanish words correctly, using proper inflection and good expression. |

|To be able to express simple needs and opinions. |

|To be able to carry on a conversation related to common activities of everyday life. |

|C. Reading |

|1. To be able to read dialogues pertaining to situations that are natural to young adults. |

|2. To be able to read simple stories written in the present tense. |

|D. Writing |

|1. To be able to write sentences correctly using the grammar taught. |

|2. To be able to write original dialogues using the vocabulary learned. |

|3. To be able to write paragraphs in Spanish. |

|E. Culture |

|1. To learn about religious and social customs of the Spanish-speaking world. |

|2. To listen to music and look at art works from Hispanic countries. |
