Please consider nominating yourself, a colleague, or a board member. We are looking for candidates with the following characteristics:Community foundation and/or philanthropic experience, including staff (typically 4-5 or more years) or board member (typically 3-4 years) with a community foundation, regional association or other philanthropic institution. Candidates should have an awareness of implementation of the National Standards for U.S. Community FoundationsTM program or in certain cases, experience with another national accrediting program. Engaged in and knowledgeable about the community foundation fieldUnderstand the opportunities and challenges facing community foundations and philanthropy in generalRelevant experience, skills, and diverse backgrounds (e.g., professional background, race, ethnicity and gender)Represent diversity among community foundations (e.g., asset size, geographic location, urban/rural, age of foundation, operating philosophies)The following additional characteristics are desirable:Candidates of color are strongly encouraged to applyRepresentation from smaller asset-sized community foundationsAfter reviewing nominations, the Nominations Committee will develop a slate of nominees and present the slate to the CFNSB board for approval. The slate will then be submitted to the Council on Foundations’ Board of Directors for a final vote.What is the Community Foundations National Standards Board?The CFNSB is a supporting organization of the Council on Foundations. The CFNSB administers and oversees the accreditation process for the National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations. The board is a group of elected members from the community foundation field.For more information about the National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations, please see our website at .What is the Structure of the CFNSB Board?The Board is composed of the following:11-15 directors elected by the Council on Foundations’ Board of Directors1 ex officio directorExecutive Committee:R. Randall Royster, Board President, President and CEO, Albuquerque Community FoundationGay Young, Secretary, Vice President of Donor Services, New York Community TrustHazle Hamilton, Treasurer, Chief Administrative Officer, Community Foundation of Central GeorgiaRequirements and Expectations of ServiceThe term for board members is a three-year term, renewable one time. Each board member is expected to attend all meetings, which include four telephone conference calls and one in person meeting per year. Board members are expected to pay their travel expenses, but there is a small amount of funding that may help partially defray such costs for individuals whose community foundations may not be able to provide assistance.
