PHYSICAL EDUCATION MAKE UP PROCEDURE

EACH time a student is absent from physical education class, he/she is required to write a review as a make-up for the class missed. The student may choose to read and review a newspaper or magazine article relating to health or physical education.

On the attached form, the student will complete each item on the paper, write a summary and opinions of the article in his/her own words, and submit the written work to the roll call teacher.

Any student who is on an “in school medical” must report to his/her roll call teacher every day. The student will receive this daily make up sheet, which must be dated, timed, and signed by the physical education teacher. The student then proceeds directly to the first floor of the media center to the designated physical education area. There he/she must sign the P.E. attendance sheet. BOTH THE READING OF THE ARTICLE AND THE WRITTEN WORK MUST BE DONE IN THIS AREA DURING THE P.E. PERIOD. The student is to remain on the first floor until the passing bell rings. The review must be returned to the P.E. roll teacher during roll call the next day the P.E. class meets.

To comply with the school policy regarding deadlines for make up assignments, written work for a one-day absence from class must be submitted within one day of the student’s return to school. Make up work for a three- day absence then has three days to complete assignments. If absence from class exceeds two weeks, it is the responsibility of the student to contact the individual physical education teacher to determine further course requirements.

The student who chooses to do the assignment using a newspaper article must be certain that the article provides enough information for a summary and opinion. A newspaper article that reports only the results of a sports event, who scored or defended, and has a staff or wire service by - line, will not meet the requirements.
