Th TH GRADE PARENTS - Carnegie Elementary School

December 3, 2018

Dear Parents;

Effective January 7, 2019, CPS will transition to Aspen Parent Portal system. For a parent or family member to have a Parent Portal account associated with a student, they must be listed as a contact in Aspen for that student. Email addresses are critical for setting up a Parent Portal account; they are used as the student contact's account name. The Aspen Parent Portal will include relevant information that was available on the previous Parent Portal like assignments, grades and attendance. It will also include student fees (as well as the ability to pay fees securely using a credit card) and health compliance information. For a parent to have a portal account there are two pieces of data that must be set:

1. Receives email must be checked. 2. A valid email must be entered.

ATTENTION 7th & 8TH GRADE PARENTS: Parents who plan to charopone the IB-MYP Class Trip to New York on May 20th-24th must complete the CPS volunteer application via and request Level 1. Parents will need to bring a copy of their driver's license to main office for school level approval and follow the district email request for fingerprinting, TB, etc....Parents who do not receive Level 1 clearance from CPS will not be permitted to chaperone the field trip.

There are over 100 students that are still out of medical compliance. Medical Compliance letters have been distributed to students and parents on several occasions. The district require that all students are in compliance by October 15th or they will be excluded from school. Medical Compliance exclusions will begin on Monday, January 7th.

As the temperature begin to drop, there are a large number of children who are arriving excessively early to school daily. Children arriving to school prior to 8:30 a.m. becomes a safety issue. Students are permitted on school grounds at 8:30 am. Staff will be on duty at their respective doors at 8:30 am to allow entry for students arriving before normal entry time. However, it is imperative, particularly on inclement weather days that students DO NOT arrive before 8:30 a.m. There is no supervision before 8:30 a.m. and students will not be permitted in the building. During inclement weather, ALL students will enter through the main doors. Students arriving at 8:30 a.m. will be directed to the following areas:

All Pre-K through 3rd grade students will report to the cafeteria. All 4th through 8th grade students will report to the gym.
