Briefly describe the field experience. What did you learn about technology coaching and technology leadership from completing this field experience? This field experience consisted of me showing two new team members how to use Aspen, which is Cherokee County’s Student Information System. One of my team members is a teacher who is new to the county, while the other teacher is new to the profession. Both teachers needed help with this program since they are both new to it. This field experience showed me that as a technology coach it is important to be able to clearly and thoroughly explain how to use programs that are vital to the day-to-day functioning of the school. 2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must you know), skills (what must you be able to do) and dispositions (attitudes, beliefs, enthusiasm) required of a technology facilitator or technology leader? (Refer to the standards you selected above. Use the language of the PSC standards in your answer and reflect on all 3—knowledge, skills, and dispositions.) Knowledge –Through this field experience, I learned that as a technology leader of the school I must have the knowledge of how to use programs that are important to the school. Skills – By completing this field experience, I learned that a technology coach must possess skills that allow him/her to explain and teach other teachers how to use specific programs and technology tools. Dispositions – A technology coach should always be positive and remain calm during training sessions. This field experience showed me that as a technology coach I must always encourage the teachers I am training to not get frustrated or give up if they feel like they cannot get the hang of something. A technology coach must always be the “cheerleader” on the sidelines cheering the teachers and students on as they explore new technology. 3. Describe how this field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development or student learning at your school. How can the impact be assessed? This field experience impacted the school faculty because through it I was able to help two new teachers become more familiar with a program that is important to our school and our school district. The impact can be assessed because these two teachers have been able to become more proficient with the use of Aspen since I sat down with them and coached them through a few things. I believe that if these two teachers were asked in regards to what helped them the most they would say the one-on-one time spent was most beneficial. I have spent time planning and collaborating with the media specialist, my mentor, and the collaborating high school. Briefly describe the field experience. What did you learn about technology coaching and technology leadership from completing this field experience? This field experience consists of planning and preparation for my students to attend a “Life Size Virtual Field Trip” during the “Hour of Code” week. I have learned that as a technology coach, it is important to have an open line of communication with not only the people of your school, but also some of the other schools in the county. It’s important to build a repertoire with technology leaders at other schools so that you can offer fun and interesting events like this. 2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must you know), skills (what must you be able to do) and dispositions (attitudes, beliefs, enthusiasm) required of a technology facilitator or technology leader? (Refer to the standards you selected above. Use the language of the PSC standards in your answer and reflect on all 3—knowledge, skills, and dispositions.) Knowledge -A technology coach must have the knowledge needed to plan and prepare for activities such as virtual field trips. A technology leader must know how to request access to a virtual field trip so that his/her students can experience one. Skills -This field experience requires a technology leader to have the skills to operate the needed equipment in order for students to attend the virtual field trip. A technology coach needs to be able to quickly troubleshoot problems that may arise, and have a back-up plan in case the technology is not working properly on the scheduled day. Dispositions -A technology coach should be friendly and be positive about the use of technology. A technology leader should also be outgoing and be willing to be the first to use a new form of technology. 3. Describe how this field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development or student learning at your school. How can the impact be assessed? This field experience will impact student learning because my students are going to have the opportunity to learn about coding from “experts” in the field. The “experts” are high achieving high school students who enjoy coding and want to share it with a younger audience. The impact can be assessed after my students complete the experience and I see how many of them are interested in coding and how many are not. Briefly describe the field experience. What did you learn about technology coaching and technology leadership from completing this field experience? This field experience consisted of me researching and teaching myself how to use the Smart Notebook software, creating a few Smart Notebook files, trying the lessons out with my students, and sharing the files with other teachers. From this field experience I learned that as a technology coach you must sometimes teach yourself how to do things by researching them. The Smart Notebook software has been available to me for the past three years, but I have never taken the time to learn how to use it until now. I can see the benefits of the software, and once I got the hang of it I created some files I can use in years to come. 2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must you know), skills (what must you be able to do) and dispositions (attitudes, beliefs, enthusiasm) required of a technology facilitator or technology leader? (Refer to the standards you selected above. Use the language of the PSC standards in your answer and reflect on all 3—knowledge, skills, and dispositions.) Knowledge -Skills – A technology facilitator or technology leader should possess the skills needed to teach themselves how to use new software or programs if no formal training is available. Dispositions – A technology leader should have a positive attitude when it comes to learning about and implementing new technology programs or software. 3. Describe how this field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development or student learning at your school. How can the impact be assessed? This field experience impacted faculty development because I taught myself how to do something new with resources available through the school district. I was able to expand my knowledge of the various software provided through the county. Student learning was impacted because my students were engaged because it was something new on the screen. They are accustomed to my daily powerpoints, so switching to a new program made them more engaged. The impact can be assessed by assessing my students learning at the end of the week. ................
