Job Title: Plant Maintenance Manager - Electrical and Instrumentation

Reports to: Assistant Superintendent

Job Summary:

RESPONSIBLE FOR COORDINATING AND SUPERVISING THE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR OF PLANT ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT, INSTRUMENTS AND PROCESS CONTROL COMPUTERS.

Essential Functions:

Assign and schedule instrument and electrical maintenance and repair work.

Receive work order requests and inspect out-of-order instruments, process control computer and electrical equipment for necessary repairs.

Estimate time and material costs of repair work and recommend repair or replacement as indicated.

Supervise and instruct maintenance personnel on proper procedures for, disassembling and replacement of parts for electrical and instrumentation equipment.

Plan layout and design of new electrical systems; modify existing electrical systems.

Train maintenance personnel as to methods and procedures, standards of performance, and other factors affecting work.

Inspect operation of repaired equipment before approving its return to service.

Coordinate maintenance and repair work with plant operations.

Assist with the development of specifications for equipment purchases.

Consult with Preventive Maintenance Manager to establish preventive maintenance schedules.

Assist with annual budget preparation.

Review operating reports and inspection records to identify faulty equipment.

Inspect plant equipment at regular intervals and determines necessary repairs.

Perform skilled maintenance work in emergency situations.

Initiate requisitions for supplies, parts and materials.

Communicate with various vendors, operation and engineering personnel regarding equipment specifications and problems.

Evaluate personnel performance.

Recommend hires, promotions and disciplinary actions.

Maintain records and prepare reports.

Replace Assistant Superintendent during his/her absence.

Observe safe work practices.

Perform other related functions as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education: Associate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: Over five (5) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of plant electrical, instrument equipment and process control computer, and two (2) years of supervisory experience; or completion of an approved apprenticeship in the electrician trade and three (3) years of experience as a journeyman electrician millwright. Additional related education may be substituted for work experience.

Specific Skills: Considerable knowledge of electrical and instrumentation trades.

Considerable knowledge of the tools, equipment and materials used in maintaining and repairing plant electrical, and instrument equipment. Some knowledge of the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment. Working knowledge of electronic data processing concepts. Some knowledge of the techniques of effective supervision. Ability to supervise skilled workers in the maintenance and repair of plant electrical and instrument equipment. Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, drawings and service manuals. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to keep records. Skill in the electrical, and instrumentation trades. Skill in electronics, analog and digital; considerable knowledge of electronic circuits

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc:

Valid state of Ohio Wastewater Operator Certificate desirable.

Valid Ohio Driver License and a driving record in accordance with the District’s insurance carrier.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

INSTRUMENT TECHS.

Working Conditions:

Working in a plant environment. Up to 40% of the time out doors, or in contaminated, dirty environments or in confined spaces with machine vibration and personal protective equipment.

Physical Demands:

Frequent walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing and standing within the plant. No facial hair that would impede the use of breathing apparatus. Must not have tendencies toward claustrophobia or acrophobia.

Interfaces:

Internal: Interfaces with District personnel throughout the organization.

External: Interfaces with general public, agencies, and other corporations.
