POSITION DESCRIPTION

(1) Position Statement:

- The preschool teacher assistant will provide assistance to the teachers in the program, which will provide educational activities for children in the Preschool program.

(2) Responsibility for Personnel Supervised:

Exempt Hourly Non-exempt X TOTAL

(3) Vacation Schedule:

Refer to Personnel Policies.

(4) Key Working Relationships:

(a) Internal: Children in Preschool program, Teachers, Therapists, Director of Early Intervention Services, Assistant Director and other Preschool staff.

(b) External: Parents of children in the Preschool program.

(5) Education & Experience Requirements.

(a) Education: High School Graduate required, CDA preferred, 40 hour child care license.

b) Experience: Previous experience working in a preschool is preferred.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

1. Assure the supervision, safety and well-being of all the children during all activities in the classroom, on the playground and on field trips.

2. Assist teacher with implementing developmentally appropriate educational activities in the daily lesson plans to develop cognition, language, self-help, motor and social/emotional skills. Become familiar with each child’s classroom goals taking direction and instruction from the teacher to ensure they are met. Implement lesson plans in teacher’s absence. Actively participate with and involve all children during the daily activities.

3. Work with children individually and in small and large groups to meet each child’s unique needs and oversee the classroom to ensure all children are actively engaged in activities and the learning process.

4. Utilize appropriate language, stimulation, handling, positioning and feeding techniques, adaptive equipment, health procedures and teaching and behavioral strategies described by the classroom teacher and therapists.

5. Implement prescribed toilet training and diapering schedule and procedures.

6. Assure the appropriate carry over of all therapeutic skills into the classroom as taught and developed by the therapists and teachers for classroom follow through.

7. Provide feedback regarding children’s performance to the teacher. Accurately chart individual’s child progress as needed.

8. Monitor at all times children’s general health and report any concerns immediately to teacher and nurse (i.e., vomiting, fever, seizures) reporting all accidents (i.e., staff, child or vehicle) or injuries immediately in accordance with agency policy.

9. Interact with children and staff and parents in an appropriate and positive manner.

10. Administer certain procedures such as catheterization, tube feeding and medications after receiving necessary training.

11. Follow and adhere to the preschool and agency’s policies and procedures and use universal precautions and agency infection control procedures.

12. Maintain the classroom and playground in a clean and organized manner, obtain teaching materials and supplies when needed and be responsible for their care and safe keeping.

13. Assist with decorating the bulletin boards and wall space.

14. Attend necessary trainings as required.

15. Maintain confidentiality with regards to children and families.

16. Performs other related duties as required.

TRANSPORTATION:

1. Driver/aide abides by transportation policies and procedures. Driver or aide assists and transports the children in a safe manner ensuring that children are strapped securely.

2. Driver/aide maintains van in clean and safe condition.

3. Driver/aide is courteous to parents/children.

4. Punctual in picking up aide and children.

5. Notify transportation director/parents or any changes regarding the run.

6. Notify administration of mechanical failures or needs of the vehicle (i.e., seat belts, tires, etc.).

7. Notify transportation director of any address changes and/or circumstances in route.

8. Responsible for first aid kit, fire extinguisher, spare tire and jack.

- May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment / supplies to include, but not limited to, pens, pencils, calculators, computer keyboards, telephone, etc..

- Ability to drive all United Cerebral Palsy vehicles with or without adaptive equipment.

- New hire must pass Flexibility Dexterity examination.
