JOB DESCRIPTION FOR LEAD TEACHER – 1/2018

Overview

The lead teacher will be responsible for all general supervision, management, development, and learning of a class of fifteen to eighteen children aged three to six. Leads are important in the building of relationships between school, home, and community while remaining consistent with the mission statement, policies, and philosophies of Medina Weekday Preschool. The lead teacher will represent the school/church with a positive, professional, respectful, and welcoming demeanor.

Qualifications

The person selected for this position must meet the criteria for consideration as lead teacher (addendum attached). This person must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children, and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in cooperation with the assistant teacher, in accordance with the school’s educational philosophy. The lead teacher is expected to have good oral and written communication, organizational, and good time management skills.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to, the following:

1. Plan, supervise, and implement the daily program in accordance with policies and philosophies consistent with MWP.

2. Plan and prepare the learning environment by setting up learning centers and preparing needed materials and supplies. When supplies are low, notify the director.

3. Assist in general housekeeping tasks. Any rooms used should be left in the following condition:

a. Tables, chairs, cubbies cleaned, spilled paint cleaned up, large muscle and outdoor equipment stored, windows closed.

b. Wash, clean and keep in good order (according to state licensing requirements) the equipment and toys in the classroom (dramatic play equipment, blocks, toy furniture, easel smocks and easel equipment).

4. Lead teachers should be familiar with the Early Learning Standards provided by Ohio Department of Education. Four/five year old teachers are expected to provide curriculum which aligns itself with these Standards while three year old teachers will strive for maximum exposure while staying centered around music and movement, social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and intellectual development. A prayer is included as part of the child’s day. Hands-on activities and communication with the child is imperative.

5. Understand and maintain all pertinent licensing requirements.

6. Maintain professional attitudes, loyalty, and confidentiality to the school at all times.

7. Conduct a home visit to each child’s home prior to the start of school or arrange to meet before school starts at school.

8. Conduct at least one conference per year with each parent to review child’s progress.

9. Conduct parent meeting in November to provide overview of class and curriculum.

10. Treat all children with dignity and respect while respecting the individuality and uniqueness of each child.

11. Treat all families and staff with privacy, professionalism, and respect.

12. Provide at least two forms of communication home to family each month (calendar, newsletter, child development topics).

13. Attend all staff meetings (2nd Tues. of the month), two In-services, Open House, Parent Orientations, and workday meetings.

13. Participate in training programs, yearly staff orientations, conferences, courses, and other aspects

of professional development.

a. New staff members are required to participate in a workshop, in- service, and orientation for educational preschool methodology. Any fees for such training will be paid for by the board.

b. All staff members are encouraged to further their understanding of young children and developmentally appropriate curriculum.

c. Returning teachers are required to complete 6 hours in professional development training annually.

14. Be aware of and implement all pertinent personnel policies.

15. Have current certification in: First Aid/CPR, Communicable Disease and Child Abuse.

16. Keep time sheets up to date and submit to the Treasurer on the last work day of the month.

17. Provide the following forms prior to employment as prescribed by Ohio Licensing Rules:

a. Medina Weekday Preschool Job Application

b. JFS Form 01296 Employee Medical Statement

c. Three Employee Personal References

d. Copy of college diploma or transcripts

e. FBI and BCII background check

f. Medina Weekday Sign-Off (Includes employee has received, reviewed and understands the following:

i. Staff Orientation

ii. Child Care Center’s Parent & Employee Information (as stated in handbook)

iii. Child Care Medical, Dental & General Emergency Plan (provided at staff orientation)

iv. Pertinent Licensing Rules (provided at new staff orientation)

v. By-Laws

vi. Operating Policy

vii. Personnel Policy

viii. Safety Policy

ix. Standard Precautions

x. Confidentiality Agreement

18. Be reachable via a walkie-talkie at all times.

19. Physical requirements may include, but not limited to:

a. Lifting up to 50 pounds

b. Running after a child in the event of emergency (i.e., bolts to parking lot)

c. Crawling, kneeling, bending

d. Doing movement during music or exercise time

e. Standing for extended time on feet

f. Lifting objects above one’s head

Salary

Salary is determined by pay scale schedule laid out by the budget committee and based on years of experience teaching at MWP.

Contract

The contract is from August to May (the school year) and extended if summer programs are offered.

Supervision

A lead teacher is under the supervision of the Director, Intentional Faith Development Director and School Operating Board. Should personnel differences, complaints or criticism arise, communication aimed at the solution of these problems shall be made through the channels outlined in the personnel policy. In Order to be considered as a LEAD TEACHER or DIRECTOR at Medina Weekday Preschool, an applicant must fulfill one of the following requirements:

1. B.S. in Early Childhood Education

2. B.S. in Elementary Education

3. B.A. or B.S in Child and Family with Child Development Emphasis or Related Field

4. B.A. or B.S. any field with a Masters in Early Childhood Education or Child Development

5. B.S. or B.A. in any field with 2 years of experience (verification and references required) as a preschool teacher

6. B.S. or B.A. in any field with 2 years of experience as an assistant at Medina Weekday Preschool

MEDINA WEEKDAY PRESCHOOL - Criteria for Employment as an ASSISTANT Teacher 2-2013

In Order to be considered as an ASSISTANT TEACHER at Medina Weekday Preschool, an applicant must fulfill one of the following requirements:

1. Associates Degree (Two Year) in Early Childhood or Child Care Technology

2. CDA (Child Development Associate) certified

3. B.S. or B.A. in any field with 2 years of experience (verification and references required) as a preschool teacher

4. B.S. or B.A. in any field with 2 years of experience as a substitute or other relationship (float, church/board member) at Medina Weekday Preschool

5. High School Diploma and completion of 45 hours of in-service training in approved early childhood subject areas, experience or references indicating a good fit for Medina Weekday
