Part B: Delivering An Oral Presentation

Learning Goals:

a) I can clearly communicate my ideas by delivering information in a confident and professional manner.

b) I can use my eight to ten minutes to help the class meaningfully engage with my ISU novel. I will do this by selecting and organizing insightful information from the text and creatively employing a variety of teaching methods.

Expectations:

You will be given eight to ten minutes to present to your classmates. You must present the following information: (1-2 minutes)

- the title and author of your novel

- a brief plot synopsis (perhaps without “spoiling” the ending)

- your opinion of the novel (defending your opinion with specific evidence)

- insight into the setting, characters and themes of the novel

You must also include a creative component, and should choose one of the following, or see the teacher to suggest an alternative: (6-8 minutes)

- create an interactive game (not trivia)

- create a book pitch (or create a commercial for your book)

- create an interactive map and act as a tour guide

- pretend that the main character of your story will be honoured at a banquet – act as the MC who presents that character

- design a monologue that one of the characters may have delivered before, during, or after the action in your novel

- create a photo journal of the story or for a character

- dramatize a scene

- write a poem or song lyrics that reflect a theme from the story or a character’s emotions

- create a newscast sharing information about a significant event in your story

The best presentations will connect all of the presentation components together creatively, and will get the class involved.
