K-2 Counseling Lesson – GratitudeThis is the 4th week of learning from home and sheltering in place. Most of us are missing friends and family and may be struggling with not knowing what will come next. So, this week we are going to talk about gratitude. Gratitude is the ability to be thankful for the good things, people, and places in our lives. What you might not know is that gratitude is good for us. People who feel and express gratitude tend to feel happier. At times like this we may not feel much gratitude, but focusing on even the little things we appreciate can help us feel better.Watch this video – What is Gratitude (2 minutes, 13 seconds) and learn how we can practice having an attitude of gratitude. If you like Sesame Street, you can also watch how Elmo is handling staying home in the video Elmo’s Playdate (25 minutes), or if you like The Berenstain Bears you can watch The Berenstain Bears Count Their Blessings (11 minutes 31 seconds). This week, try to find the good in your life every day. It could be for things - “I ate a good breakfast”, people - “My grandma called me to say hello”, or something that turned out less bad than you thought – “my neighbor was sick, but is doing better”. Think about what you are grateful for and complete the What Makes Me Happy worksheet. If you need help thinking of things, watch Rocket Kids – Practicing Gratitude (4 minutes 9 seconds). You could even complete the Feeling Grateful word search or the Have an Attitude of Gratitude coloring page.We may not be able to share the same space or give out grateful hugs, but we can still connect with others through a phone call, text, video chat, or even a card in the mail. It will make them and you feel better. ................
