Students will engage in a wide variety of literacy activities including shared and interactive read-alouds, literacy centers, foundation literacy skills (phonics) and guided reading lessons. Our goal is to have?all?students reading on or above grade level by the end of the year. To attain this goal, reading will be the primary focus for our weekly homework. Students will be assigned to read 15-20 minutes each night at home. In place of the weekly agenda books, first grade has opted to purchase the weekly Scholastic News magazines for each student. This reading material will be coming home weekly as well.?Please note that we go outside for recess every day the weather permits. Your child might benefit from having a labeled?blue or white sweater or sweatshirt at school.?While it is still warm outside, our classroom might be chilly with the air conditioner on.?We also encourage you to send in a change of clothing (socks, uniform and underwear) for your child to keep in their locker. Accidents happen and there are times when students might need to change clothes. This year, our lunchtime is at 12:30 pm. Students are encouraged to bring a spill proof bottle (water only please) and?nut-free snack to eat?during our guided reading rotations. Let’s start the year off right.-200025490855Instrumental Music?Welcome to the new school year! My name is Mr. Curran, and I’m happy to be the Instrumental Music teacher this year at Seven Oaks! I met with all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students last week to give a brief overview of the Band and Orchestra programs. Registration forms were distributed to all interested students this week. These forms are due back to Mr. Curran by Tuesday September 17th. Each student will need to rent or purchase their own instrument, which must be in good playing condition. A list of rental stores is included on the back of the registration form. An extremely limited number of school instruments are available on a first come, first serve basis for students with financial need. If students need to borrow an instrument from the school, please indicate this need on the registration form, and understand that participation and instrument choice will be based upon availability of instruments.I ask that all students have their instrument and lesson book (Essential Elements, book 1 for their specific instrument) when lesson begin in October. These forms are due back to Mr. Curran by Tuesday September 17th. Each student will need to rent or purchase their own instrument, which must be in good playing condition. A list of rental stores is included on the back of the registration form. An extremely limited number of school instruments are available on a first come, first serve basis for students with financial need. If students need to borrow an instrument from the school, please indicate this need on the registration form, and understand that participation and instrument choice will be based upon availability of instruments.I ask that all students have their instrument and lesson book (Essential Elements, book 1 for their specific instrument) when lesson begin in October.
