CITY-WIDE INTERLOCK MIDGET RULES

MIDGET (18U) “A” CITY PLAYOFF RULES

Baseball Manitoba and Winnipeg Minor Board Midget (18U) “A” General Rules used during the regular season apply where not indicated.

IN-FIELDS & WARM-UPS

1. The home team should begin infield practices on the field no later than twenty-five minutes before game time and the away team fifteen minutes before game time.

2. Warm ups for each team should be no longer than ten minutes. If the field is unavailable because the earlier game has not ended, use green space.

3. In-fields will be shortened if necessary to remain on schedule. Teams will be allowed only one in-field per day.

4. All new pitchers will get six (6) warm up pitches and then four (4) pitches before each inning. If a team or pitcher is slow coming onto the field an umpire can reduce the number of warm up pitches.

INSUFFICIENT NUMBER OF PLAYERS TO START A GAME

When one team has 8 or fewer players at game time the following happens:

➢ A 15-minute grace period is allowed.

➢ Team that is short may bat first.

➢ Any open place in the batting order when it comes will be an out.

➢ If a team does not have 9 players when it takes the field, the game is a forfeit and the team is disqualified from the playoffs.

➢ If coaches know their team will not field enough players, they must contact the playoff convener at least 24 hours before the game. The team will be assessed a loss but will remain in the playoffs.

END OF INNING & GAME

2.1 The six (6) run inning maximum, 10 run maximum in the last inning (7th inning), and

10 run mercy rule after 5 innings of play, or 4½ if home team is ahead, all apply.

2.2 A new inning cannot start 2 hours after the start of the game. Any inning in progress at this time must be completed.

2.3 If a game is tied after seven innings, the Baseball Manitoba rule for extra innings will go into effect.

2.4 The championship game has no time limit and must be played until a winner is declared.

PITCH COUNT REGULATIONS

3.1 The official scorekeeper will notify the opposing team before the game which players are eligible to pitch and when pitchers reach their pitch count limit.

3.2 The site convener will post the pitch counts and determine the required rest period (if any). 3.3 Once pitch counts are posted, they cannot be changed.

3.4 Coaches are fully responsible to follow pitch counts rules. They should verify pitch counts after each game with the official scorekeeper, check the posted list of the official pitch counts before each game, and consult with the opposing team before each game to confirm pitch count restrictions, if any, for players on either team.

3.6 Pitchers are permitted to have a maximum of two (2) appearances on the same day. A pitcher may only return to pitch in the same day if their pitch count does not require a rest.

3.7 Pitchers will be permitted to finish the batter if their maximum pitch limit has been reached for that calendar day.

3.8 Once a player pitches, they cannot catch for the remainder of the day. A player may catch, and then pitch in the same game or the same day.

3.9 Age advanced players must be identified before the game. These players are restricted to the pitch count for their age group and not to the age group of their team. Thus, a Bantam (15U) player age advanced to Midget (18U) is restricted to the pitch count for Bantam players.

3.10 Draft choices are allowed to pitch in accordance with the pitch count rules.

PLAYOFF FORMAT

All teams will play a minimum of four pool round games in the playoffs. Two games are played on both Saturday and Sunday if weather conditions permit.

Home team during the pool round is awarded to the higher seeded team if all teams played in the same league. If the host team did not qualify in the top four, it will be placed fifth. When there are more than one city league, each team is assigned two home games. In the championship round, home is decided by a coin toss.

When three or more teams are tied after the pool round, the Baseball Manitoba tiebreaker formula is applied. Runs scored and defensive outs in extra innings are not included when the Baseball Manitoba tiebreaker formula rule is used. The tiebreaker game, if necessary, is played on Monday and the Championship Game on Wednesday.
