Holocaust Journal/Diary Project – 18 points!5461000301625Step 1: Read about the different categories of behavior in the Holocaust. Based on an individual's’ thoughts, feelings, actions, and beliefs, people were considered a: Perpetrator - someone who carries out a harmful, illegal, or immoral actCollaborator - person who cooperates with the perpetrators for a variety of reasonsTarget - person who is being harmed physically, psychologically, and/or economically.Rescuer/Resistor - person trying to make a difference by working (often secretly) against the perpetrators and collaborators.Bystander - a person who sees the events take place but is not actively taking a part in them.Step 2: Think about what it was like for different people belonging to each group. You do not have to agree with the actions, thoughts or beliefs of these people, but I’d like you to consider what life was like for ALL of the players involved in the Holocaust. The events of the war changed life for everyone, not just the Jews. Step 3: You are going to choose one category, one person out of the choices Collaborator, Target, or Rescuer/Resistor. Put yourself in the shoes of this person and think about what daily life was like for them during the time of the Holocaust. Step 4: Then write a journal from the point of view of this person. Your journal/diary can either be handwritten or a Google Doc shared with me. If it is handwritten, you MUST use INK. You may be creative and age your pages. You will describe who your person was and describe how your person changed as the events of the World War II and Holocaust were carried out. The topics for each entry are outlined below. ENTRY #1: (3 pts) Introduce yourself and give yourself a personality. Discuss your childhood, parents, happy times- BEFORE the Nazis. Describe where and how you grew up.ENTRY #2: (3 pts.) Hitler has come to power and Jews are being persecuted. Most people are going through major changes. Discuss these changes. How are you and your family coping? Use any information you have found while researching or in the class Google Documents. An important thing to think about: You don’t have to be Jewish to be impacted (in a good or bad way) by Jewish Laws.ENTRY #3: (3 pts.) You have gone to a ghetto or a concentration camp, either as a Worker, Prisoner, Medical Personnel, or Rescuer based on the role you selected from the beginning (if you aren’t sure which role you would be, please ASK!). Describe camp/ghetto life and daily routines. How do you survive? Where is the rest of your family? Discuss your thoughts, feelings, and fears (all groups have these!). Remember to stay in character!AFTERWARD: (3 pts.) This last entry is written from an editor’s point of view (someone else who found the journal/diary). As the editor of this diary, explain what happened to your person after after the war (positive/negative consequences for actions, survival?, reunited?). APPEARANCE/CREATIVITY/SPELLING/GRAMMAR: (6 pts.) Include at least three pictures, drawings, or photographs. Pay attention to spelling and grammar as you write your diary. Remember, you may complete your diary/journal in INK or on a Google Doc. You should make it look realistic! Each entry should have dates, maybe even notes off to the side!Holocaust Journal/Diary Project Academic Rubric321Entry 1Shows depth of individual character and their daily life before Nazi regime.Gives basic information about the individual before the Nazis came to power.Gives little to no background information on your character.Entry 2Addresses how Hitler’s takeover has changed your life and/or the lives of others.
