REFERENCE TEXTBOOK:

MATERIALS: Computer, laptop, Chromebook.

WARM-UP/JOURNAL NOTEBOOK: Digital notebook for vocabulary words, phrases, notes, reflections, etc. is required.

OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to:

1. Comprehend the general meaning of simple directions spoken in Spanish and respond appropriately.

2. Comprehend and respond appropriately, through oral and written work that is related to topics relevant to everyday life.

3. Write simple paragraphs and dialogs.

4. Comprehend and use basic grammatical concepts.

5. Engage and respond appropriately in authentic communicative tasks.

6. Express their own views on topics and questions of interest.

7. Show an appreciation of the culture of Spanish-Speaking countries.

CLASS RULES and EXPECTATIONS: In order to provide ALL STUDENTS with the best instruction possible, I will ask that they be active, courteous and supportive members of this class. JECA has a zero-tolerance policy.

The following classroom guidelines will provide a positive environment that will enhance student learning. ALL students are expected to BE a part of the class and follow these guidelines.

BE PROMPT (on time)

BE POLITE (use good manners)

BE PREPARED (materials)

BE AWARE of and FOLLOW school rules (handbook)

BE a PARTICIPANT (involved)

Oral Participation:   You cannot learn to speak a language if you do not speak it. Perfection in the language, whether in written or oral form, is never expected. However, I do expect you to do your best at all times. Students will be required to participate actively in class discussions and activities.  Participation grades will be assigned based on effort, overall command of the language, pronunciation, and attitude in class. Due to the importance of participation, it also constitutes a large part of the student’s total grade.

Classroom Procedures

Once you enter the zoom classroom

• Read the agenda on the chat box

• Open up your digital journal

• Be respectful

• Begin the Warm-up/Journal Entry

Classroom expectations

• Use an inside voice in the zoom lectures classroom.

• Listen and focus when anyone is speaking to the class.

• Be on task at all times. Students are expected to be attentive and respectful and not to disrupt the learning process.

• You must be in dress code compliance at all times.

• Respect the privacy and rights of others.

CLASS GRADE:

• 60% for CLASSWORK, QUIZZES, & ORAL PARTICIPATION. Participation in class and in certain projects & activities will make up the grade for this section. Classwork is due during the SAME PERIOD of the day assigned. THIS CATEGORY makes up A LARGE PERCENTAGE of the OVERALL grade for this course; therefore, it is in the student’s best interest and possible success for him/ her to STUDY DAILY & PREPARE thoroughly in order to be successful.

• 40% for ASSESSMENTS -TESTS & PROJECTS.

PARTICIPATE, COMPLETE & TURN IN ALL ASSIGNMENTS ON TIME. LATE Assignments will be penalized if you have an unexcused absence (70% maximum for a grade) and must be turned in no later than 2 school days from when you return.

DO NOT CHEAT, PLAGIARIZE OR SHARE WORK. Doing so will earn student a ZERO.

You are hereby notified that the passing grade is a 70. Progress reports are given at the end of the fourth week. Report Cards are given at the end of nine weeks. Parents are urged to contact the front office for a conference if there are questions or concerns about the progress of the student. You may also contact me via e-mail.
