1. Tell me about yourself.

My name is Olivia and I am currently enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Program at Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute. I am a child care provider for my neighbours of three years and have developed many new skills and qualities such as carefully following specific instructions, multi tasking, quick thinker and organizational skills. I also have volunteer experience at the Waterloo-Wellington Groundwater Festival by performing a puppet show for young children. From this experience, I realized I have a strong memory and pay attention to details with great precision. My personal interests are judo as I attained my green belt late this previous year, alpine skiing, and I am working towards completing my grade 10 piano for the Royal Conservatory of Music.

2. What do you have to offer this company?

I have attained excellent teamwork skills from all of the activities I have participated in. For example; Athletic council, my previous dance training, ad working with a partner in judo and piano duets/quartets. This is important because, being a barista, you have to work together with your other employees to know which drinks are being prepared and by who. My experiences with other people have ranged from performing a piano quartet for 3 years to being on Athletic Council and performing those duties with my other council members. My kinaesthetic skills are also important because it can help me learn to develop drinks faster because it is such a hands-on activity. My interpersonal skills are also well developed for handling customers.

3. What are some of your personal accomplishments?

I have participated in the Kiwanis Music festival since the age of 7 in both Stratford and Kitchener. Over the years I have collected several scholarships and have been asked to represent either Kitchener or Stratford at the Ontario Provincials for 3 consecutive years. I am very dedicated to my piano study and always continue to finish what I begin with perseverance. I was a member of the Athletic Council during my grade 8 year in school and am part of the Athletic Council at my high school currently. I have been participating in the sport of judo for a year and a half and have reached green belt continuing to receive my blue belt. Both activities involve interacting with people and so I have a very developed teamwork skill.

4. What are your favourite subjects? Why?

My favourite subjects include Math, Business, Science, and English. Math and Business are my strongest subjects because I have a very developed numerical sense and so giving me a reasonable way to estimate for customers and the ability to do calculations in my head. I enjoy Science because I find the topics interesting and it is never a subject that stays the same but is always changing as well as the units on machinery so that I can understand how the devices work that I work with so that if a problem arises I have a background on how to fix it. Finally, I enjoy English because I believe it is important to understand how to write any type of document well and correctly as well as communicating with people in a proper manner with correct grammar.

5. What abilities/skills do you have that relate to the position?

I have acquired an excellent memory over the years especially from my piano pieces and I follow specific instructions well from my babysitting experience which will help me remember instructions to take drink orders and how to make them. I am a very aural learner and from my experiences at Starbucks as a customer that seems to be an important skills to have to interact with other people.

6. What kinds of student do you consider yourself to be?

I consider myself to be an active learner in all areas. Saying that, I believe I am mainly a kinaesthetic and aural learner because of my study habits in school and my history playing piano for 9 years. I believe this can help me succeed as a barista because I am already very good with my hands but I am also I quick thinker and can process specific information well and effectively.
