What Is Covered By the Macaulay Scholarship?
• The scholarship provides a waiver for the amount of tuition not covered by TAP Grant, NYS HESC Scholarships, CUSTA, NYS TAP Waiver and NYC Council Merit Scholarship for eligible Macaulay students. The student is responsible for all student fees, technology fees, and special fees such as materials and lab fees. You must also pay any charges incurred due to late program changes or dropping or withdrawing from a course.
• Enrollment in less than 12 credits in a semester must be approved by your advisor and the Macaulay Honors College Dean, or you risk not being funded. This includes withdrawing from a course after the semester begins. An official notification must be sent to Ms. Grant for a manual update to your account.
• The Honors College supports summer course work and will provide eligible students a waiver for a maximum of eight credits during summer and one class up to 4 credits in the January session. The balance for courses over this amount is your responsibility, as are student fees.
• If you are studying abroad during winter session and are taking more than the supported number of credits, you must get approval from Macaulay by completing the Winter Study Abroad Tuition Policy Exception Form ().
FAFSA and TAP:
• You are required to file the FAFSA and TAP applications for each academic year. Your tuition scholarship is dependent on this, even if you don’t receive other financial aid. Failure to file by May 15th will result in a Bursar’s stop on your record.
• You are responsible for verifying that the filing process is complete by contacting Ms. Grant’s office in Financial Aid at Brooklyn College. Login to the FAFSA and TAP websites to confirm your applications have been processed. Students should refer to their CUNYfirst account to review their financial aid status and “To Do List”. Below is a link to a guide that will assist you in managing your financial aid:
• Common Errors on the FAFSA and TAP:
▪ Student signature missing on FAFSA application
▪ CUNY school not listed on the FAFSA application
▪ Parent Signature and Social Security number missing on TAP application
▪ Incorrect TAP school code (Note: Macaulay Honors College does not have a designated college code for FAFSA or TAP applications. Brooklyn College codes: FAFSA: 002687 / TAP: 1410)
TAP Ineligibility:
• New TAP guidelines specify that once you’ve declared a major (by 60 credits) you must take 12 credits of classes towards requirements, which include your major and general core and basic skills classes. If you receive TAP and have questions about this, please let a TAP advisor know during your registration advising meeting.
• If you are found TAP ineligible during the semester, first visit the TAP Office (West Quad, 2nd Floor).
• If the TAP Office still determines that you are ineligible for TAP/state scholarships, Ms. Hirsch or Mr. Changoo must send an e-mail to Ms. Grant so your file and waiver can be reviewed and adjusted.
Your Bill:
• You can view your bill through your CUNYfirst account by visiting your Student Center page, and clicking on the Accounts Inquiry hyperlink. If you would like to see an itemized listing of your financial aid, select the Pending Financial Aid link. Please review your bill before the semester begins to determine all aid, waiver and other information is accurate and current. View your bill periodically during the semester and before the term ends to determine if any changes or updates were made that need to be addressed.
• Keep in mind that you are responsible for paying your fees:
• Report changes in your name, address or student identification number to your home campus
Registrar and Financial Aid Offices.
• Update your contact information (i.e. Home address, phone and email address) with Macaulay at
• It’s a good idea to retain a paid in full copy of your bill for each semester (with supporting documents).
