APA Format Bibliography
1. Put your sources in ABC order by the author's or editor's last name.
2. If you are using more than one reference by the same author or editor, then you put them in order by the date of publication, the earliest first. For example:
Hewlett, L. (2003) comes before Hewlett, L (2006)
3. Occasionally you may have a reference that is from an agency. An example would be the EPA or NJ DEP, or it may have no author at all.
Associations or group organizations, such as the EPA are alphabetized by the first significant word of the name. Always use the full official name of the organization. For example EPA would be written Environmental Protection Agency.
4. If there is no author, the title moves to the author's position, and the entry is alphabetized by the first significant word of the title.
5. Retrieved information from an electronic source: EBSCO or FACTS
Author, A. A., Author, B.B., & Author, C. C. (year of publication, Month Day). Title of article. Title of Periodical, volume, issue, pages. Retrieved month day, year from: web address.
6. Book, brochure and book chapters
Author, A.A., & Author B.B.(if applicable) or Editor, A.A. (if no author) (year of publication). Book title. Place of publication: Publisher.
For the XYL Encyclopedia of Science:
Author, A.A. (year of publication). Article or chapter title. Book title, volume, pages. Place of publication: Publisher.
For a dictionary:
Editor, A. (Ed.). (year of publication). Title of dictionary (edition). Place of publication: Publisher.
7. Newspaper:
Author, A. A.(year of publication, Month Day). Title of article. Title of Newspaper, pages.
