Task descriptions

L.S.C.W.C. – Look at word, say word, cover word, write word, check word – and then repeat for each spelling word e.g.

Sentence Words – Write a new sentence for each of your spelling words e.g.

apple - Yesterday I went to the market and I brought a bid red apple.

Alphabetical Order Words – Write your list of weekly spelling words up in a list alphabetically (from a to z) e.g.

apple

cat

yellow

Back Words – Using your finger ‘write’ your words on another person’s back, then ask them to ‘write’ your spelling words on your back.

Picture Words – Write out each of your weekly spelling words and then draw a picture that illustrates each of our spelling words e.g. If you can not draw a picture try a person with a speech bubble

Computer Words – Type each of your words into a Microsoft Word Document – have fun with colours, sizes and fonts – print your page out and stick it into your Homework Book e.g.

Texta Words- Write out each of your weekly spelling words in texta and then stick them into you Homework Book

Word Find Words – Make up our own find-a-word that contains each of your weekly spelling words – see if you can find your spelling words and test someone else!

Missing Vowel Words – Write out all of your weekly spelling words, but do not write any vowels

Up and Down Words – Write out each of your weekly spelling words going up or going

down e.g. c t

Rainbow Words – Write out all of your weekly spelling words in different colours

e.g. Clap jump

Fancy Words – Write out all of your weekly spelling words in fancy writing

e.g. Bubble writing, swirl writing ham lamb home come

Dictionary meanings – Write out all of your weekly spelling words and their meanings from the dictionary

e.g. home- a house, apartment, or other shelter that is the usual residence of a person, family, or household.

Case Words – Write out your words in upper and lower case

e.g SHOP shop

Shape Words – Draw a shape and write out all your words inside the shape

Jigsaw Words – Use the jigsaw template or make your own jigsaw from paper. Write all your words onto the jigsaw. Cut it up then glue it back together into your book

Rhyming Words – Write out your words with a matching rhyming word

Shop- hop jump- rump hen- pen

Snail Concentration – Cut out the snails, Write out your words on the back of the snails (two of

each word) Turn all cards upside down and find matching pairs. (Ask someone to play with you)

Antonym Words – Write out your words with a matching antonym ( A word that means the opposite) Hot- Cold Slow – Fast

Synonym Words – Write out your words with a matching synonym ( A word that means the same) Happy- glad cold- freezing big- tall

Hello Hippo – Cut out the pieces- Write your words on the rectangles. Get an adult to hide the hippo- read out the words till you find the hidden hippo

Syllable Words – Write out your words and how many syllables it has (Remember to clap out the words) e.g cat- 1 elephant- 3 lion- 2
