Earth’s Cycles Test Review Information

1. The longest night here would

be during the Winter Solstice.

2. Pay close attention to the tilt of

the earth during the different

seasons.

3. There are two reasons for the

seasons. Revolution / Tilt

4. Day and night is caused by the

rotation of the earth.

5. Notice where the sun is lined

up on the earth during each

position.

1. Know what the phases look

like individually.

2. Know the order of the moon

phases.

3. The phases (different

appearance) are caused by the

relationship between the

earth/moon/sun locations.

4. The moon revolves once about every 28 days.

5. It also rotates about every 28 days. That is why the same side of the moon is always facing us.

6. Half of the moon is always reflecting light. (unless what?)

7. About 3 ½ days between

phases.

Waxing – we are seeing more and more of the side reflecting light

Waning – we are seeing less and less of the side reflecting light

1. During new moon phase, we have the

potential for a solar eclipse. Also, we

will be seeing spring tides. (bigger)

2. During full moon phase, we have the

potential for a lunar eclipse. There

will be a spring tide.

3. Neap tides occur at 1st and 3rd quarters.

4. Know where the phases occur.
