POSITION: Substance Abuse and Community Outreach SpecialistFT/40 hours per week$22-24/hour DOEPTO and medical benefitsCell phone allowanceJOB DESCRIPTIONMotivated, self-directed, organized individual who is committed to helping build systems and relationships to address community issues related to substance misuse. Responsibilities will include conducting community outreach and training – some within a jail setting; documenting community needs; identifying barriers and needed system changes. This is a collaborative position in conjunction with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detention Services Unit and the Mobile Outreach Safety Team (MOST) in Washoe County. The ideal candidate will provide education about drug abuse and provide linkages to community resources. The position will also collaborate with other agency partners. The work will take place at many sites – the JTNN office, Washoe County Human Services Agency, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, and possibly other partner agencies.REQUIREMENTSBachelor’s Degree in psychology or other clinical or mental health related field.Preferred - one (1) year of professional counseling experience.Preferred - Nevada State Board of Examiners Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor/CADC-I at the time of hire.Proficiency in reading, speaking and writing in English.Preferred - proficiency in reading, speaking and writing in Spanish.Must possess excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills.Must possess comfort in working with incarcerated individuals.Ability to work with a diverse population.Ability to speak to large groups and facilitate conversations about complex topics.Ability to maintain professional and ethical standards at all times.Ability to represent JTNN and Washoe County positively in the community at large.Ability to meet grant deliverables.Willingness to be flexible to meet the needs of all partnering puter and Internet literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must provide own transportation and proof of a current Nevada driver’s license.RESPONSIBILITIESDevelop and conduct educational presentations for a variety of audiences such as, but not limited to, inmates, family members, and community stakeholders, on substance misuse and abuse, addictive drugs, and other topics as directed.Assist the Mobile Outreach supervisor with outreach and in the development and delivery of educational presentations relating to substance use disorders and related issues.Provide referrals to community resources.Document barriers relating to access to treatment or needed system changes within Washoe County.Coordinate and/or participate in collaborative activities and meetings to share resources and build or strengthen partnerships with community stakeholders.Provide support for agency education events such as tabling at health fairs and other outreach activities. Document all program activities as required, prepare and submit quarterly grant reports.General office duties such as preparing typed committee meeting reports.Other projects as assigned.SKILLSCommunication: Must be comfortable speaking with members of the public. Able to read, analyze, and interpret reports and grant documents. Able to write reports, correspondence, and emails. Able to present information and respond to questions effectively.Maintain Records: Maintain grant and account files and retrieve information when needed.Must Have Skill and Ability to: Learn to efficiently use various software applications, follow instructions, organize and prioritize work, perform basic research, work cooperatively, and use good judgment.PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand or sit for extended periods. The employee will also be required to occasionally stoop, bend, and reach. The employee is required to use hand to finger, handle or operate objects or controls, reach with hands and arms, and be able to hear and speak. Duties will require walking and driving. Occasional local travel is required. The employee must be able to lift and or move up to 20 pounds for short distances. ................
