To book your place, please email conf@rcr.ac.uk – the deadline to apply for a place and a bursary is 11 January! Details of bursaries are available here. The delegate fees are:??208 for consultant RCR members??257 for consultant non-members1016035750500Local Anaesthetic Template Biopsy: This procedure uses a different methodology for obtaining prostate biopsies. Advantages described include: supports increased access to the prostate particularly those areas difficult to reach with the transrectal approach, it is free hand, enables the practitioner to target locations through a single puncture of the skin, reduces the potential for infection, since passage of the biopsy needle avoids the rectal wall contaminants. For the patient, this method requires no bowel prep or need to pre-medicate with antibiotics and allows the clinician to perform the biopsy under local anaesthesia in a short duration procedure. The technique and equipment being used in Bristol is shown left (PrecisionPoint?).Local Anaesthetic Template Biopsy Training: Health Education has offered funding to train 12 consultants and 12 nurses in Local Anaesthetic Template Biopsy (one in each provider across the South West). This technique is currently being used at North Bristol NHS Trust, and will soon be piloted at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, Taunton an Somerset NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust before being rolled out to all others. Initially this will seek to replace those template biopsies done under general anaesthetic before reduce TRUS volumes, thereby giving Trusts time to plan and convert lists. Trusts will be contacted in due course.Prostate Workshop: Simon Freeman, Consultant Radiologist Plymouth is organising a course in Plymouth in the Autumn that will include fusion biopsy but also other biopsy techniques (including LA transperineal).
