Since your children left in the spring, our custodial staff has been working tirelessly to make sure that our buildings and grounds are ready to go for the first day of school. This year, students will return to school on Wednesday, September 4. This day will be a half day for students with dismissal at 11:08 a.m. so that staff can participate in mandated professional development programs.As we approach the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, I would like to take this opportunity to update everyone on some important changes that will be taking place this year as we gear up for the first day of school! Leadership ShiftsKaty McEnroe (Principal) and Matt Pascale (Assistant Principal) will lead grades 7-12 at Webutuck Junior/Senior High School this year.I will be principal of EBIS (Grades 4-6) and will serve as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the district.New StaffJoseph Lasaponara will be coteaching in 5th and 6th grade. Stephanie Resila will be coteaching in 4th grade and 6th grade.Audrey Toonkel is joining us from WES as a special education teacher.Jamie Quaranto is returning to EBIS and will be teaching 4th grade.Dawn Drake will be a teaching assistant within our ELA department in grades 4-6.Jennie Selfridge will be a teaching assistant in Audrey Toonkel’s classroom.Rachel Vallone will be filling a leave replacement for Evelyn Brennie until she returns later this year.Cristina Nuzzo will be teaching Family and Consumer Science.New Curriculum - Instruction - TechnologyAll students will be given an iPad once the proper paperwork is handed in and they’ve completed their digital citizenship seminar at school.The first 17 minutes of the student day will be dedicated to an advisory period. The focus of this period will be to form relationships, teach study skills, monitor progress, and to teach character traits/social emotional competencies through the positivity project. There will be a focus on “Equity For All” across the district.All students will have access to Mr. Corbett’s virtual reality technology as well as a new gaming station that includes educational games such as Minecraft.We will be using Into Social Studies in all grades.We are very much looking forward to watching our students come off the buses and to have the hallways filled with the hustle and bustle that has been absent all summer.
