Business and Operations Manager ? Job Description

Hours: 32 hours a week Salary: R375,000 full-time equivalent salary (pro rata, R25,000 per month) Location: St James Reporting to: The Director Line management responsibilities: Finance Officer and Office Administrator

Job Purpose: To oversee the strategic and efficient running of Wordworks, through implementing robust business planning, budgetary, organisational and governance systems.

Specific Duties ? Produce a detailed forward budget for the organisation which reflects the three-year

strategic plan. Devise and implement systems for budget planning and monitoring. ? Design a business plan for Wordworks' revenue-generating activities ? specifically

marketing and sales of resources and materials. Devise and implement systems for managing and delivering all sales activities. ? Devise and oversee effective office policies and systems to ensure the efficient and accountable running of the organisation and the proper use of resources at all times. ? Write high quality, persuasive funding applications, including producing accurate budgets. ? Undertake donor liaison, including ensuring that reporting requirements and schedules are met. ? Monitor and plan for resource needs across all programmes. ? Oversee the maintenance of the Salesforce database. ? Line manage the Office Administrator and Financial Manager, and liaise with programme team leaders around budget planning and monitoring. ? Undertake other tasks from time to time, as requested by the Director.

Person specification

Essential criteria: ? Educated to degree level. ? At least eight years relevant workplace experience, with at least three years at senior

management level. ? Significant and demonstrable financial management and business planning experience. ? Excellent English spoken and written communication skills. ? Experience of managing staff. ? High level of competence in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and

Outlook, and in internet search and use. ? The ability to juggle a demanding workload, to work to deadlines and to be flexible. ? The ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships with external

stakeholders and to work as part of a cohesive and supportive team, including the ability to work sensitively and respectfully with people from different backgrounds.

Desirable criteria: ? Experience of writing funding applications and of donor liaison. ? Experience of working in a non-profit organisation. ? An additional language ? Xhosa or Afrikaans.
