TERMINOLOGY SYNC-UP

1. An activity domain is a grouping of activities requiring a distinctive BRM ability. a. Execution Domain -- Activities (actions and decisions) carried out to achieve immediate results on an ongoing basis. b. Strategic Domain -- Activities (actions and decisions) carried out to define an organization's purpose, set the overall direction for achieving it, remove obstacles as they are encountered, and ensure results.

2. Business relationship management (BRM) is a philosophy, capability, discipline, and role to evolve culture, build partnerships, drive value, and satisfy purpose.

3. A business relationship management capability is everything it takes, visible and invisible, to nurture relationships in an organization. Examples of visible components are meetings, artifacts, and professional development and examples of invisible components are knowledge learned, experience gained, trust and confidence-building. Used effectively, these components build the endless reserve of energy necessary to evolve culture, build partnerships, drive value, and satisfy purpose.

4. The BRM Competency Model describes the knowledge, skills, characteristics, behaviors, and mindsets needed for performance in the BRM role. It is designed to help in the process of acquiring, assessing, and developing individuals in the BRM role, or other roles that require the same competencies as those needed by BRMs.

5. The business relationship management discipline is an effective application of knowledge, demonstrated through a set of competencies and mindsets to advance BRM capability.

6. The business relationship management role is the set of competencies required to advance the business relationship management capability.

7. A business relationship manager is an individual fulfilling the business relationship manager role and has the competencies required to advance the BRM capability is a business relationship manager.
