GENERAL INFORMATION

The mission of the University Tutorial Center

To help Cal State LA students better prepare, improve their knowledge and understanding, and develop skills required for a successful college career.

The University Tutorial Center's tutors will assist you in a collaborative, interactive fashion to: become a more confident, effective, independent learner by not doing your work for you but by

enabling and encouraging you to do your own work. develop your knowledge, understanding, and skills in a variety of courses in business, engineering,

mathematics, the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. improve your time management, note-taking, and test-taking through study skills presentations and

informative handouts.

The University Tutorial Center's services are: free to currently enrolled Cal State LA students with a Cal State LA student photo I.D. card. for all students who want to improve or maintain their grades. easy to use and available on a scheduled appointment, walk-in, and online basis. successful in developing skills and increasing knowledge and understanding of course subject matter

as reported by over 98% of the students tutored; 3 out of 4 students tutored earn grades of A, B, or C. recognized by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Visiting Team as a

successful program that has demonstrated success in student retention (October, 2010).

The University Tutorial Center is: centrally located and easily accessible on the first floor of the Palmer Wing of the John F. Kennedy

Library. staffed with friendly, helpful, and courteous student office assistants and qualified, trained and certified

peer tutors. Our tutor training program has earned International Tutor Training Program Certification from the College Reading and Learning Association open for tutoring from the first through the tenth week of each quarter. Call, visit, or go online for the Center's current hours of operation. funded by the Educational Opportunity Program, the Division of Academic Affairs, and the Student Success Fee.
