INTERNAL DISCUSSION: Discussed procedures for selecting awardees, ranked all proposals, and had final discussions on those receiving grants/stipends. Provided final list of those to receive funding to University Research Office that integrated College, Dean, and UMGSS Committee scores.

DATES MET AND BRIEF OVERVIEW:

• March 3 (10-11:30 am)– Learned there were 93 total applications (23 MG and 70 SS); reviewed timeline (receive ranked applications from Dean by 4/4, and we must have decision by 5/1 for whom should receive funding), reviewed what evaluating (mini-grants and summer stipend applications only; have $22,000 total to award), selected Chair (Babette Benken), selected UMGSS rep to the Univ Awards Committee (Mary Celsi), and discussed possible ways to proceed and how to score, as outlined in official documents.

• March 24 (9:30-10:30 am)– Discussed policy regarding scoring: (each proposal will have 3 readers) and decided that at least one reader will be from the same college, and at least one will not be from the same college; each member will thus read approximately 18-23 proposals; Al Russo (Research Office) will make assignments; set timeline for dissemination of assigned proposals; reviewed scoring rubric as outlined in solicitation with scores to be recorded in an Excel file that Benken sent to members; set timeline for sending Benken all scores (4/25) to be compiled by her and sent to Russo; decided we would meet one more time to look at rankings and make any needed decisions around cut-off point; final rankings due May 2.

• May 2 (10:30-11:45 am)– Made final funding decisions; Russo collected all proposal copies; Benken/Russo will keep readers’ comments to facilitate any feedback requested by proposal writers.
