Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL) ()

GVRL includes full-text encyclopedias, almanacs, and specialized reference sources in many subject fields.

The CAT

The CAT is a database of the wide range of resources in the Penn State Libraries. Search all Penn State library locations or a single location. Use I WANT IT to request books that are not at the Delaware County.

Resources for Time Period Research ()

Lists books and reference works that summarize key events in U.S. 20th century history. These resources will help you understand the social, cultural, political environment of key events, speeches, films, plays, etc.

America: History & Life and Historical Abstracts

America: History and Life is the premier database for scholarly research in American and Canadian history. Historical Abstracts provides coverage of scholarly research in world history, excluding the U.S. & Canada. Both databases include thousands of articles from major social science and humanities journals.

New York Times Historical (1851-2001)

New York Times Historical provides a digitized image of every backfile issue of The New York Times from cover to cover, including news stories, editorials, photos, graphics, and advertisements.

Biography & Genealogy Master Index (BGMI)

BGMI is an index (not full text) to biographical information about influential people worldwide, both living and historical. Identifies current & historical sources; Check the CAT for availability of specific sources at Penn State.

Selected Arts and Humanities Databases

- Humanities Abstracts indexes periodicals in archaeology, art, classics, film, folklore, journalism, linguistics, music, the performing arts, philosophy, religion, world history, and world literature.

- Literature Online indexes primary texts and secondary sources in English and American literature.

- MLA Bibliography indexes journal articles, dissertations, and books, pertaining to modern literatures, folklore, film, drama, languages, and linguistics. It excludes book, drama, and film reviews

ProQuest

A multidisciplinary database of news and journal articles on topics in the arts, health, law, public policy, science and technology.

Lexis Nexis Academic

An excellent database for current news coverage, worldwide. Its nearly 6,000 sources include domestic and international newspapers and news wires, magazines & journals, radio and TV news transcripts.

[pic] provides direct links from a citation in a database to online full-text of an article (when available).

When Get it! cannot link you to an article online, click on “ILLiad” to request a free photocopy delivered to your desktop. You will be notified by email when it is available for download. 1) Connect to ILLiad through the link in the Get it! window, or go directly to ILLiad at 2) Log in with your ACCESS ID and password. If prompted, complete a personal profile to register. 3) Check on the status of your request as needed.
