Lolita B. Hall epitomizes professionalism, innovative thinking, and high expectation for quality in all educational endeavors as evidenced by her extensive experience and success in the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education. During an illustrative 27-year career at the VDOE she was the driving force behind innovative educational initiatives ranging from Virginia’s System of Core Standards and Measures through Workplace Readiness Skills for the Commonwealth, industry credentialing, and Pathways in Cybersecurity. We will miss you, Lolita, and wish you only the very best in retirement as you take on new experiences and new adventurers. It is with heartfelt gratitude that we say…farewell, best wishes, and thank you, Lolita, for your service to Virginia’s students, teachers, administrators, and programs. 2018 Virginia ACTE Outstanding CTE Teacher of the YearDiane Breinig, a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher at Briar Woods High School, Loudoun County Public Schools, was named the Virginia ACTE Outstanding CTE Teacher of the Year. Breinig is the lead teacher for the Early Childhood Education and Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow program. Congratulations!2017 Association for CTE Health and Medical Science Outstanding Service AwardJane Best, a Practical Nursing instructor at the Chesapeake Career Center in the Chesapeake Public Schools division has been awarded the CTE Health and Medical Science Outstanding Service Award. During her 17 years in education, Jane has proven to be an effective teacher and an outstanding nurse. Her exceptional knowledge of nursing pedagogy and incorporating instructional strategies in the classroom that reflect best practices have yield an impressive student state exam pass rate.National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE)Teresa Lindberg, Agricultural Teacher, Edward W. Wyatt Middle School, Greensville County Public Schools, received the NAAE Outstanding Agricultural Education Teacher Award. This program recognizes NAAE members who are at the pinnacle of their profession—those who are innovators and catalysts for student success in agricultural education. The award recognizes Teresa for her leadership in civic, community, agriculture/agribusiness, and professional activities. Teachers Turn the Key ScholarshipDanielle Hodges, Agricultural Teacher, Franklin County High School, Franklin County Public Schools, was awarded the NAAE, Teachers Turn the Key Scholarship. The NAAE offers this scholarship to encourage young teachers to remain in the profession and recognize the importance of active participation in professional development and activities.U. S. PresidentialThe U. S. Presidential Scholars Program was established by President Lyndon Johnson in 1964 and since that time, the program has honored more than 7,000 outstanding high school seniors. Beginning in 2016, outstanding students who demonstrate excellence in Career and Technical Education (CTE) were included for recognition. CTE New Teacher InstituteThe VDOE will offer the New Teacher Institute July 9-13, 2018, in Richmond, Virginia. The targeted audience is career and technical education teachers who enter the classroom directly from positions in business and industry.
