There is no cost for any student who is identified as Artistically Gifted & Talented (GTR) and attends a Title I School. All materials and instruction are included.

You may send your child with a bag lunch. However, breakfast and lunch have been provided to our program at no cost.

CLASS CHOICE:

Choose a 1st choice for MAJOR, as well as a 2nd and 3rd option in case 1st choice is full.

Once a student is identified as Artistically Gifted and Talented, identification remains through 12th Grade. Identified students are eligible to apply for SMAART each without having to repeat the audition process.

EVENT INFO Charleston County School District's SMAART (Students Mastering the Academic Arts) is a three-week summer program in music, art, dance, and drama. Students who have been identified as Artistically Gifted & Talented through the CCSD formal screening process are eligible to apply.

HOURS 8:30am ? 4:00pm, Monday through Friday. Drop-off via car loop ONLY, no earlier than 8:00 am.

PACKET PICK-UP Packet pick-up will be a drop-in held TUESDAY, JUNE 9, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at SOA. Please be sure to pick up your child's packet.

IMPORTANT PAYMENT INFORMATION Online and checks payments will be accepted. Online payment information will be on the registration form. Checks must be made out to "CCSD" and include student's name.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE Registration opens online on Monday, March 2 at 5:00 am. Registration will be available on our website at vpa. Space is limited. Students will be accepted on a first-come, firstserved basis based on their artistically identified area. Some classes fill up early, so please register ASAP! Once a major area has been filled, students will be placed in their 2nd or 3rd choice major per the registration from. On the registration form, select the MAJOR class your child would like to attend.

Complete and submit the application via the form found on the CCSD Visual & Performing Arts website: vpa. You will be notified whether or not your child has been accepted. The only reason not to be accepted is if all classes have been filled.

WAITING LIST Students not accepted in a class due to it being at capacity will be placed on a waiting list.

COMMITMENT In order for SMAART to be successful, it is necessary for students to attend every day for the entirety of the program. In the case that a student needs to be absent due to illness or emergency during the summer program, please contact the SMAART Office (phone number available when program begins) regarding the absence.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

COST The program fee is $200. Bus transportation is an additional $100 and is optional. No cost for students that attend a Title I school.

LUNCH Students can bring their own lunch if preferred. However, breakfast and lunch are provided at no cost. We encourage those bringing their own lunch to be mindful of allergies, particularly to nuts.

TRANSPORTATION Students must register for transportation to ride the bus. Bus stops will be located at CCSD Schools across the District and will be determined when student needs have been finalized. If applying for the bus, please indicate the school you would like to use as a bus stop. Please note: Your exact selection may not be the actual stop after the actual routes are built based on requests.

CLASS SELECTION Students will spend the majority of time in their MAJOR (student selected), while still receiving instruction in MINORS (staff selected). Students should choose which class they prefer for their MAJOR. Please choose MAJOR class choices by title on the registration form. Every effort will be made to accommodate requests for MAJORS to the extent that scheduling allows.
