Q: Will the Post 9/11 pay for my or my child's Master's Degree?

A: Yes. The Post 9/11 GI Bill will pay up to the full in-state tuition for any Public College or University, or up to $21,084.89 per year to a Private College. But remember, if a Soldier joined the U.S. Army after August 1st, 2011 A.D. for one enlistment period, and uses the MGIB, she/he is now limited to using only the MGIB and cannot transfer Post 9/11 benefits to children or switch to using Post 9/11 after beginning to use the MGIB (see: Public Law 111377 sec. 111 re: Bar to Duplication of certain educational assistance benefits). Contact Mr. James Mortimer Jr. (Transition Education Counselor) at james.e.mortimer.ctr@mail.mil or (785) 2390224, and don't forget to consider State's benefits.

Kansas Controlled Burning: Soon farmers will be burning their fields, including the beautiful Flint Hills region. You will want to ensure you and your family members stay healthy during these times. The biggest health threat from smoke comes from fine particles. It is a good idea to avoid breathing smoke if you can help it. Here are some helpful tips:

Pay attention to local air quality reports.

SAFETY Use common sense. If it looks smoky outside, it's not a good idea to

OFFICER

mow the lawn, go for a run, or let the children play outdoors.

If you are advised to stay indoors, keep indoor air as clean as possible by keeping windows and doors closed, and run your air conditioner if needed.

FOR

SAFETY If you have Asthma, COPD, or heart disease, smoke particle exposure

can cause serious problems. Always follow your management plan

and if you develop symptoms of coughing, wheezing, shortness of

breath or unusual fatigue, contact your doctor right away.

Central Michigan University

Central Michigan University debuted its first ever Video Conference Class (VCC) on January 8, 2016 when the course Seminar in Organizational Management (MGT 649) was simultaneously presented between satellite centers in Columbus, OH and DeKalb, GA.

The first night of delivery found the professor, Dr. Kevin Balog, physically in a CMU classroom in Dekalb while his instruction, whiteboard notes and other materials were simultaneously transmitted to the students at the Columbus Center at Easton Oval. The response from students was incredibly positive and many are excited about the next opportunity to be a part of the next CMU VCC course.

This dynamic delivery method is now coming to Fort Riley, KS Education Center when the CMU course Seminar in Organizational Management (MGT 649) is transmitted between Fort Riley and the CMU center at Minot Air Force Base, ND starting April 8, 2016.

They must demonstrate a need for financial assistance with their educational expenses in order to improve or gain skills needed for employment. The grant is not to be used for living expenses or to repay educational loans.

The maximum grant is $3,000. Lesser amounts may be awarded based on funds available in the current year's grant budget and applicant's individual needs. Applicants are eligible to receive only one PCE grant. Application must be completed 10 weeks before beginning of term, but no more than four months in advance.

FEDERAL EMPLOYEE BENEFIT

University of Maryland University College (UMUC) and Champlain College, Vermont are offering reduced tuition rates for Federal employees attending online courses.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has signed agreements with UMUC and Champlain College which allow for reduced tuition rates on certificates, Undergraduate (UG) and Graduate degree programs to all current Federal employees, spouses, and legal dependents.

Both colleges are regionally accredited, the highest form of accreditation a college can achieve. The graduation rate for UMUC is 56% for UG and 59% for Graduate. The graduation rate for Champlain College is 55-60% for both UG and Graduate.

Students attending UMUC receive a 25% discount on all UG and most Graduate Programs. Typical UG degrees are approximately $31,920 and Graduate degrees average $16,302. Maryland Residents pay slightly less per Semester Hour. Out-ofstate students are not offered reduced tuition rates on Graduate programs in Cyber Security, Digital Forensics, Cyber Investigation, Data Analytics, the MBA, or Executive and Doctoral Programs.

The fee structure at Champlain College for Federal employees is based on a subscription. Students select the subscription level for their budgets. UG degrees are approximately $12,000 and Graduate degrees less than $10,000. Champlain College does not offer any Doctoral programs, but recently added an MS in Information Security Operations available online at: .

TRANSFER OF EDUCATION BENEFITS (TEB)

A plan to slash in half the housing allowance for military dependents using the transferred benefits remained in the bill and was approved . A similar version of the legislation will be considered in the Senate before heading to the President's desk for approval before it becomes law.

The provisions, part of the Veterans Employment, Education and Healthcare Act, halved only the payment for children of service members using the transferred funding--not the Spouses. Children who have already have transferred benefits under the old rules will be grandfathered into the full housing allowance, as will those transferring the benefit up to 180 days after the change is signed into law. Soldiers who have not yet reached six years of active duty service are not eligible to transfer the benefit and will not be able to lock in the current housing allowance rules.

If you have reached active duty service for at least six years, we recommend you consider the transfer of your benefits to your dependents now, if you wish to do so. We will keep you posted once the bill is enacted into law.
