BEST PLACE at the historic pabst brewery

WELCOME TO BEST PLACE:

After the Pabst Brewery closed in Milwaukee in December 1996, it sat empty until 2001. It was at that time that Jim Haertel received his accepted offer to purchase the Corporate Offices & Visitors Center on September 11, 2001. Great care has been taken to ensure that Blue Ribbon Hall, the Great Hall, Captain's Courtyard, Guest Center, King's Courtyard, and the original Gift Shop have all been restored to their original glory.

Since the first phone call was placed inquiring about buying the property, the brewery is once again full of life and laughter as "Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery" and is once again open and ready to welcome you.

With your first step into Blue Ribbon Hall, you will instantly be transported back to time when things were a little tougher and yet life was simpler. Experience a small piece of Americana and enjoy yourself surrounded by Old World Charm and Hospitality.

If you're looking for a unique, one of a kind, "Best Place" for your corporate or individual event, seminar, lecture, workshop, or wedding, look no further than Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery!!! Visit the "Photos" page at for a few images of how we can make your special event a Blue Ribbon affair. History was made here. The future will come alive here.

"As a catering company & event planners our clients frequently ask us to recommend a place to hold their events. Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery has joined the top of our list as a captivating & historic venue for professional and social occasions." ..........Jim Kasper - Saz's Catering

BEST PLACE VENUE DESCRIPTIONS:

The Great Hall The Great Hall on the west end of Best Place is located in the former accounting offices of the original corporate headquarters built in 1880. The hall includes the former office of Captain Pabst. Also featured is a back bar from Cristanelli's Saloon in Norway, MI. Rumor has it that Henry Ford and Thomas Edison were frequent visitors to the bar.

Blue Ribbon Hall With your first step into Blue Ribbon Hall, you will instantly be transported back to a time when things were a little tougher and yet life was simpler. Experience a piece of Americana history and enjoy yourself surrounded by Old World charm and hospitality. BRH is located in what was once a Milwaukee Public School built in 1858.

Captain's Courtyard The statue of Captain Frederick Pabst will welcome you into his courtyard, which is framed by the Guest Center, BRH, and our vintage gift shop. Enjoy the company of your friends during a warm summer evening, while tasting the coolness of a freshly poured beer. While the courtyard provides a great open air venue for sunny weather, a canopy can be added to provide protection against inclement weather.

Jacob Best Balcony Overlooking historic and beautiful Blue Ribbon Hall, the Jacob Best Sr. balcony was formerly a minstrel's gallery (def. often inside the great hall of a castle or manor house, it was used to allow musicians to perform, sometimes discreetly hidden from the guests below).

Juneau Avenue Juneau Avenue has been restored and widened, offering much space for cars and pedestrians alike. For events exceeding the capacity of our inside venues, closing off part of the street provides another great opportunity for large public events and gatherings. The possibilities of this area are endless.

King's Courtyard For more than a century, a statue of the good King Gambrinus, the legendary monarch of beer and brewing, reigned at the brewery. The original statue was carved out of wood in 1857 & in 1966 it was reproduced in aluminum. When the brewery closed in 1996 the statue also left. In 2011, Best Place was given permission to bring back the statue in all of its glory to its rightful home at the brewery.

Stammtisch/Edgar Miller Room For the 100th anniversary of the brewery in 1944, Chicago artist Edgar Miller spent 40 days painting wall murals depicting the brewing process and the history of the brewery in the "Stammtisch" and Blue Ribbon Hall. Adjacent to BRH the room is ideal for small groups, private meetings, or as a VIP lounge for your special guests.

Sternewirt Guest Center The Guest Center also called the "Sternewirt", which, translated in German means Star Host. In 18th and 19th century German breweries, this was the name of the room where the brewery owners entertained their guests. When the brewery was still running tour guests were rewarded after the tour with pints of beer and the Sternewirt's special atmosphere of authentic German Gemuetlichkeit.
