Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Center Recognition – National Demonstration Schools – Arizona Middle School, La Sierra High School and Norte Vista High School: Arizona Middle School, La Sierra High School and Norte Vista High School have each been named an AVID National Demonstration School for the 2006-2007 school year. In addition, Norte Vista High School has been named an AVID National Certified School with Distinction for the 2005-2006 school year. They are in an elite category among more that 2,200 AVID schools in 36 states and 15 foreign countries. They offer exemplary programs and provide leadership at the national and regional level to other schools wishing to develop an AVID program.

Public Safety Update: Steve Adams, Riverside City Council Member; Bob Williams, Area Commander Riverside Police Department; and Scott Barber, City of Riverside Director of Community Development, will present an overview of new public safety actions and how it relates to the District.

Approve Agreement for Consultant Services – Oxford Tutoring Center: Board approval is requested for consultant services between Oxford Tutoring Center and Alvord Unified School District to provide after-school tutoring from February 20, 2007 through June 28, 2007 at Rosemary Kennedy Elementary School.

Fiscal Impact: $69,750.00 (General Fund/Restricted - $59,750.00 Economic Impact Aid/Limited English Proficient; $10,000.00 English Language Acquisition Program)

7. Approve Middle and High School Supplemental School Counseling Program Plan: Board approval of the Middle and High School Supplemental School Counseling Program Plan is requested.

Operational Support Services Item

8. Award Public Works Contract – Pacific Air Heating and Cooling, Inc. – Replace Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Equipment (HVAC) – District Office and Student Services Center: Board approval is requested to award a Public Works Contract to Pacific Air Hearing and Cooling, Inc. as the lowest responsible bidder meeting all contract requirements for proposed removal and replacement of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment at designated District Offices and the Student Services Center.

Fiscal Impact: $158,800.00 (Deferred Maintenance Funds)

Personnel Services Item

9. Approve Classified Staffing for Lake Hills and Phillip M. Stokoe Elementary Schools: Board approval is requested to add the following staff for each of the two new elementary schools:

◆ One School Secretary I – eight-hours/eleven-months

◆ One Clerk Typist I – eight-hours/ten-months

◆ One School Library Assistant – four-hours/twelve months

◆ One Head Custodian I – eight-hours/twelve months

◆ One Custodian (Night) – eight-hours/twelve months

Approve Overnight Trip to the Virtual Enterprise San Francisco Trade Fair – La Sierra High School: Board approval is requested for ten students and two chaperones from La Sierra High School to attend the Virtual Enterprise San Francisco Trade Fair on March 10-12, 2007, at the Oakland Conference Center in Oakland, California.

Fiscal Impact: $5,376.00 (General Fund/Restricted - $4,476.00 International Business Academy; $900.00 Student Contributions)

e. Approve Overnight Trip to the Future Farmers of America (FFA) University of California, Davis Career Development Judging Event – La Sierra High School: Board approval is requested for twelve students and two chaperones from La Sierra High School to attend the Future Farmers of America University of California, Davis Career Development Judging Event on March 2-4, 2007 in Davis, California.

Fiscal Impact: $490.54 (General Fund/Restricted – Agriculture Incentive Grant)

f. i. Approve Agreement for Consultant Services – Robert Dlouhy: Board approval is requested for consultant services between Robert Dlouhy and Alvord Unified School District to provide the Stop Butts anti-tobacco, drugs and alcohol classroom presentations scheduled between February 20, 2007 and June 29, 2007.

Fiscal Impact: $1,200.00 (General Fund/Restricted – Tobacco Use Prevention Education 9-12)

j. Approve Agreement for Consultant Services – Jim Cogan: Board approval is requested for consultant services between Jim Cogan and Alvord Unified School District to present two assemblies during the Annual Author’s Fair at Terrace Elementary School on June 22, 2007.

Fiscal Impact: $600.00 (General Fund/Restricted – School and Library Improvement Program)

k. Approve Agreement for Consultant Services – J&C Enterprises, LLC: Board approval is requested for consultant services between J&C Enterprises, LLC and Alvord Unified School District to present one Dinosaurs Rock Inland Empire assembly at Terrace Elementary School on March 16, 2007.

Fiscal Impact: $750.00 (General Fund/Restricted – School and Library Improvement Program)

l. Approve Agreement for Consultant Services – Rene’ Bibaud: Board approval is requested for consultant services between Rene’ Bibaud and Alvord Unified School District to perform student jump rope workshops at eleven elementary schools scheduled between April 1, 2007 through May 31, 2007, as part of the HALF(Time program.

Fiscal Impact: $6,787.00 (General Fund/Restricted - $3,393.50 21st Century Community Learning Center; $3,393.50 HALF(Time After School Education and Safety Grant)

m. Ratify Agreement for Consultant Services – SEEK Education, Inc.: Board ratification is requested for consultant services between SEEK Education, Inc. and Alvord Unified School District to provide Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) Program Assessment, tutor supervision and training services from May 1, 2006 through June 30, 2006.

Fiscal Impact: $1,571.25 (General Fund/Unrestricted)

Operational Support Services Items

n. Ratify Purchase Order List Number 12-2006-2007: Board ratification is requested for Purchase Order List 12 Purchase Order Numbers 14397 through 14585 (Total 189); Short Form Contract Numbers 101 through 107 (Total 7); and Child Nutrition Purchase Order Numbers 6193 through 6219 (Total 27) in the amount of $463,043.58.

o. Approve Agreement for Consulting Services – Loss Control Training Services and Chemical Profile Inventories – Keenan & Associates: Board approval is requested for a two-year agreement for consulting services between Keenan & Associates and Alvord Unified School District to provide Loss Control training services including classroom science lab chemical inventories and preparation of chemical profile inventories.

Fiscal Impact: $8,500.00 per year (General Fund/Unrestricted)

p. Ratify Policy Renewal with Midwest Employers Casualty Company: Board ratification is requested for an 18-month renewal of the Excess Workers’ Compensation policy with Midwest Employers Casualty Company.

q. Approve Personnel Order #12-2006-2007: Board approval of Personnel Order #12 is requested.

Approve Increase of Pay for Student Tutors: Board approval is requested to increase the pay for student tutors who are enrolled in high school from $7.50/hour to $8.25/hour; and for student tutors who are enrolled in a college/university program from $10.00/hour to $10.75/hour, effective January 1, 2007.
