Job Title: Business Development Manager

Location: Wellbeing Scotland

Alloa Office, with travel throughout Scotland

Salary: £32,580 - £35,468 per annum (pro rata)

30 hours per week (six hours per day, 5 days)

Reporting to: Chief Executive

Overall Purpose of the Organisation:

Wellbeing Scotland is a community based organisation working with impact on Wellbeing from life circumstances comprising a range of specialist services under the Wellbeing Scotland umbrella.

Services include:

Open Secret working with survivors of childhood abuse

Wellbeing matters working with all aspects of wellbeing

Stronger Together working with sexual exploitation and abuse in young people

Children and Families

In care Service

Training

All services involve:

• Individual/groupwork

• Training, support and supervision of volunteers

• Resource bank of information

• Raising awareness and campaigning

• Involvement in issue based work which tackles discrimination and disadvantage at local, national and international levels

• Contributing to research and legislative changes and developments

• Advocacy and sign posting to other services

Services are also offered to workers in statutory, voluntary and community settings.

Services comprise:

• Training/consultation for statutory, voluntary and community agencies

• Resource bank of information

• Opportunities for partnership/joint working

Job Purpose: To provide strategic, marketing and development direction to identify, build and develop business growth opportunities, develop volunteering and training.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• To research business opportunities, build networks and partnerships and analyze current service provision and availability of trauma interventions in order to provide recommendations for business growth and development.

• Prepare tenders, funding applications and applications to Trusts.

• Development and responsibility for HR function.

• Management of the fundraising, finance and administration functions.

• Lead on the implementation and delivery of our Fundraising Strategy.

• Implement robust systems that will support all aspects of fundraising for the charity.

• To work closely with Wellbeing Scotland CEO, Operational Manager Client Services and Supervision/ Training Officer to progress business development of the service provision in an ethical, innovative way.

• Identify new business opportunities and potential commissioning areas including development of a training arm and ME services.

• Manage Finance Officer to ensure all legal and organisational requirements are met, liaising with the Treasurer.

• Set and implement budgets with CEO and Treasurer in accordance with organisational commitments and funder’s expectations.

• Manage organisational and project budgets with Finance Officer.

• Provide fundraising reports and updates for the Board of Directors.

• Work with CEO & Finance Officer to produce and maintain Management Accounts.

• Provide an oversight of the administrative function to ensure cover for Head Office and efficient administration processes.

• Management of delegated staff e.g. Finance Officer, Fundraiser, administration team.

• Oversight of the mild to moderate mental health service.

• Support, training and line management of volunteers.

• Ensure appropriate representation of service, on behalf of service users at a Local and National Level, including local strategic meetings and community groups.

• Develop, monitor and maintain systems of recording statistical information and evaluation information of different strands of service.

• To design, coordinate, participate in and evaluate volunteer training programme to ensure that training provided meets the needs of the participants, delegating training delivery to other workers where appropriate.

• To develop systems that will eradicate waiting lists for clients and ensure high quality client engagement.

• To keep abreast of the political agenda and how this impacts upon survivors of childhood abuse, and to disseminate information locally, encouraging and enabling service users to be involved in and respond to consultations.

• Ensuring compliance with GDPR and a proactive approach in working with the external consultant

• Being responsible for PVG systems and procedures ensuring legal compliance.

• Managing the community jobs Scotland roles/ applications and paperwork.

• To liaise with workers to promote networking and referrals from other agencies.

• To manage recruitment process for volunteers up to twice yearly and to manage recruitment of workers, as required.

• Liaise with CEO to ensure project delivered within budget including management of specific project budgets.

• Delivery of service to clients including one to one and groupwork.

• Design and delivery of training to other organisations.

• Participate in and promote fundraising events and activities.

• Supporting the fundraiser to develop the charity shop.

• To develop and nurture positive business relationships with potential partners within the public, corporate and third sectors.

• Develop commissioning proposals/agreements for new and existing funders.

• To work with the Operational Manager to ensure appropriate client and provider feedback systems are in place to ensure commissioning relationships are maintained to a high professional level.

• Manage customer calls and appointments effectively for new opportunities.

• Participate in relevant forums, meetings and events as a representative of the organisation.

• Produce bi-monthly progress reports for the Board of Directors.

• Any other relevant duties as may be required by the Chief Executive.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Skills

The Business Development Officer should meet all of the following criteria:

• A degree in a relevant area for example, Business Management, Accountancy, Community Development.

• Direct experience of income-generating activity in the voluntary sector with a track record of successful funding applications.

• Strong background in working with financial systems, managing budgets and preparing management accounts.

• A proven track record in service delivery management in a third sector organisation.

• Commercial skills and tendering experience.

• Experience of delivering and designing training.

• Experience of developing and delivering projects to a high professional standard.

• Experience of giving presentations, networking skills and a proven ability to develop relationships.

• Ability to build and develop effective ongoing partnerships in areas across Scotland.

• Experience of managing people and developing Human Resource systems.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Experience of supporting volunteers.

• Experience of working with the Scottish Government and other funding partners.

• Experience of equalities.

• Strong inter-personal and relationship building skills.

• Excellent IT skills to enable the production of appealing and professional documents & presentations.

• Ability to travel regularly.

• To be comfortable in dealing with abuse survivors.

• To have a non judgemental, open and friendly approach.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and understand how confidentiality operates in a counselling environment.

• Ability to work as part of a team, developing a positive organisational culture.
