this DCM as President of Newcastle Area. She was looking forward working with the officers and board present here who already feels like longtime friends: Caroline Smith, Earl Peterson, John Lux and Bill Wilder; Maribeth St. Pierre, treasurer was in Texas.
Ltg. Becky Wilder asked to introduce the members first as we practice being a servant leadership organization, then the guests. Thanked everyone who came and helped. Our Division members are really like family as everyone just helped. Besides the hosts, many members just stepped in and helped, special mention went to Earl Peterson, John Lux, Bill Wilder, Ruben Nieto, Doug and Liz Rector, Judy Rogers, Byron Shutz, Jerry Torell and all of you.
ROGER BELL was introduced and spoke about his goals for the District. "Membership is #1 Priority." We have lost so many clubs since as a district but we are getting back up our membership by opening new clubs. Some clubs are already getting a Distinguished club category, one who sponsored Newcastle Area Kiwanis Club, Providence Point. Redmond Club is also getting there by sponsoring new members.
Being a member of Kiwanis has many long term benefits, you gain lifelong friends and on his birthday, he got so many birthday greetings.
At the end of his speech, Ltg. Becky Wilder gave him a surprise birthday cake which Earl Peterson cut and Byron Shutz distributed. Roger Bell also got to take home the rest with his name written on the cake.

INTRODUCTION OF GUEST: Bellevue Club Secretary, Carla Marrow introduced our inspirational guest Clark Roberts the Executive Director and founder of Ultimate Vision "Inspiring Others to See in New Ways". They are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that teaches people of all ages that life does not stop when adversity occurs. It is not a matter of if, but when, life is going to happen.
Their Mission: to inspire others to see in new ways, educating and motivating all ages to celebrate their differences, reach beyond their limitations, learn to overcome challenges or adversity to live a life that is full and rewarding, inspiring others to do the same.
At age 24, Clark lost his sight to Retinitis Pigmentosa. He discovered that when life hits, you have to learn how to embrace the challenges, find your potential and live life to its fullest!
2
"Our accomplishments in life are not measured by our abilities or disabilities, but rather by our willingness to try He started by asking the audience if they liked receiving gifts and everyone said "yes" and he mentioned that whatever our circumstances in life, we have to be thankful for the "gift of life, life is a gift." He talked about his own life after losing his sight, his experience overcoming physical challenges where he continued to serve in many ways, with his wife and Aurelia, a Golden Retriever yellow Labrador cross and Clark's 6th guide dog from Guide Dog's for the Blind (GDB).
Despite his disability he is active and strongly believes in supporting youth leadership programs, because of the positive impacts that are made on teens from participating. He teaches children and adults that they each have gifts, talents, and abilities and that no matter what happens they can make a difference. They are shown that when (not if) "life happens" ... they can stand confident in their ability to adapt, learning things in a new way. Get more info on his website:
OFFICIAL MEETING NOTES:
ELECTION: We began with the Election of Past Ltg. 2015-16 Carol Mahoney as our 2018-19 Ltg. Designate. After three times calling nomination from the floor, she was unanimously elected. She gave a short speech- thanked everyone at the meeting for the privilege to serve again as their Lt. Governor, that we are going to increase membership, work on a Division project, have fun, and make it a great year! Also thanked the Clubs who brought the ink cartridges by Joseph Murashie of Bellevue, Ferrin Lauve of Providence Point and Jeri Tolstedt of Issaquah.
She announced the Kiwanis Hockey night at Seattle Thunderbirds on Sunday, March 4th at 5PM the ShoWare Center in Kent. Tickets are $28 per person and the clubs get half of that money ($14 per ticket) to use in whatever manner they choose. The deadline to turn in the names and the money to the Seattle Thunderbirds is by Saturday, February 10th. The tickets will be sent to each club as soon as the Seattle Tbirds receive the money.
PNW DIVISION 28 PROJECT PROPOSAL was presented to the club by Issaquah Past President Judy Rogers-briefly talked about her proposal for a Division project supporting the Echo Glen School, she passed information about what we can do, she did not want us to make a decision right now but asked the members to bring to their clubs the information and requested to have the information she passed out to be published on the website. Examples of what each club can do is by giving presents during Christmas and birthdays to the students (read her information), it is now on our website
MEMBERSHIP PRESENTATION by Former LTG from New York- KEN ORMISTON from the Redmond Club created a format on how to invite members, and passed it to the clubs. Past LTG., PNW current Club Opener, Division 28 Membership and Secretary FERRIN LAUVE, member REDMOND CLUB and Providence Point, also gave some pointers regarding doing cold calls and said that having referrals are better than cold calls but that was how he got members for Crossroads and Newcastle Area, doing both cold calls and referrals and shotgun emails (comments by Ltg. "he annoys all until they
say "yes," , we need a clone of Ferrin in each club).
