Understand Christmas in the UKMaterials:Handout with activitiesA CD recorder to play the song Projector to display the video on the boardFlashcards for Define and guess gameA sack and different objects for Santa’s Sack game A real cracker to show in class Scissors and glue ACTIVITIES:Stage 1: Presentation of Christmas in the UK.Use a real cracker to introduce the Christmas activity about Christmas in the UK. Explain, in a short and simple way, the history of crackers. (2’)Pull the cracker and show the things to the SS. Explain to them that it’s typical to have them on the table for Christmas dinner. Then, ask your students about how they celebrate Christmas in Spain. (5’)Write on the board some key words they are going to listen to later and ask them if they know about how other kids celebrate Christmas in other parts of the world. If they don?t know much, encourage them to imagine how Christmas is in faraway places like Alaska or China- they can work in pairs. (5’)Tell them they are going to watch a video about Christmas in the UK . (7’)Divide the class in groups of 4, and tell them to talk about the main differences between Christmas dinner in the UK and Spain. Ask for some feedback before finishing the first part of the lesson and revise the vocabulary through a define and guess game. (10’)Stage 2: Activities and gameGive the student the worksheet about Christmas food and tell them to do it in pairs. (10’)Say to your students they are going to play a game called Santa’s sack. Before the lesson prepare everyday objects of varying sizes and shapes, wrap them up in Xmas paper and put them in a sack.
