YOUTH PASTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Youth Pastor of Riverlawn Christian Church is a member of the Pastoral Staff of the church and is selected by the Lead Pastor and the Elders for an unspecified period of service. He will provide leadership to our Youth Ministry, seventh grade through twelfth grade under the supervision of the Lead Pastor and the Eldership. Primary responsibilities are to partner with parents in the church to introduce as many youth as possible to Jesus Christ, using as many methods as God directs and to oversee the initial nurture and discipleship in establishing them in healthy growth. He is expected to contribute to the team spirit of the staff through fellowship, encouragement, cooperation, prayer support and other appropriate ways, as he serves his Lord Jesus Christ, the church and the Lead Pastor.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:

• Meets the scriptural requirements for an elder (though he may or may not serve as an elder).

• Holds a degree from a reputable Bible College.

• Must have experience leading a youth ministry.

• Teaches children within the context of Riverlawn’s statement of faith.

• This includes the Word of God being the source of all teaching.

• Will be involved in personal discipleship through a small group.

• Will be involved in serving the community outside of the Riverlawn campus.

• Will be a faithful tither to the church.

• Stays current with the trends of his ministry by growing through the listening of other leaders in children’s ministry, reading books, periodicals and attending approved conferences.

• Attends all staff meetings and retreats, as directed.

• Will be at the church for all regular worship services and, as directed, special services.

• Will be available to the congregation before and after services as other duties allow.

• Maintains flexible working hours as determined by the needs of his ministry.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. He will be responsible for all aspects of the Youth Ministry, seventh to twelfth grade.

2. He will do his best to incorporate into the youth ministry the Riverlawn mission of Making Disciples who Make Disciples (Matthew 4:19).

3. He will be responsible for leadership, training and development of the Youth Ministry Coaches.

4. He will be responsible for the oversight, evaluation, promotion and direction of the many programs within the Youth Ministry. Some of these programs include, but are not limited to:

a) Dynamic biblical preaching and teaching to youth

b) Small Groups and other Discipleship Venues

c) Giving spiritual counsel and encouragement to youth

d) Teacher training and recognition

e) Assisting Parent’s in raising spiritual champions

5. Provides community outreach events that allow youth who have never heard of Jesus, to be introduced to Him.

6. Make recommendations for equipment, curriculum materials, audio-visuals and see that current inventories of equipment are available.

7. He will help train parents how to equip, train and disciple their youth.

8. Responsible for creating, evaluating, monitoring and changing as needed all the goals for his ministry team.

9. Responsible for maintaining a balanced work schedule, keeping track, coordinating with and informing the Lead Pastor of vacation days, sick days, days off, make-up days, personal days etc.

10. Responsible for all ministry budgets for youth ministry and young adults. He will hold his team members accountable for the development and management of their individual and team budgets. He will monitor all check requests, purchase orders etc. for his team.

11. Other various duties as directed by the Lead Pastor for the enrichment of the staff, leadership and ministries at Riverlawn Christian Church, including weekly staff meetings, church leadership meetings, and other pastoral duties as needed.
