The work also includes performing the full range of Bailiff duties. This class is distinguished from other County public safety and security supervisory classes in that the primary responsibilities involve overseeing a staff that protect and perform ancillary duties to support court and related criminal justice system staff.THIS IS A DEPARTMENTAL PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY AND IS OPEN ONLY TO FULL-TIME PERMANENT EMPLOYEES OF THE EIGHTH JUDICIAL DISTRICT COURT WHO HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THEIR PROBATIONARY PERIOD.This examination will establish a Departmental Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next three (3) months. The subject areas that will be assessed in the interview phase shall include Law Enforcement experience; officer rights related to discipline, misconduct, investigations, and hearings; professional experience related to multi-tasking and critical deadlines; and conflict-resolution. Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the final hiring interview.?MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school, AND three (3) years of full-time experience as a Bailiff in a court setting OR three (3) years of full-time experience as a Nevada State P.O.S.T. Category II (or higher) Certified Law Enforcement Officer. Prior lead or supervisory experience required. Must agree to satisfactorily complete a valid Nevada State P.O.S.T. Category I training program within eighteen (18) months form the date of hire.Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Carry a firearm and meet and maintain applicable certification. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.Medical Examination:?Employment is contingent upon the results of a medical examination performed by our examining physician.Pre-Employment Drug Testing:?Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.EXAMPLES OF DUTIESPlans, organizes, assigns, supervises and reviews the work of assigned full-time and part-time Bailiffs. Recommends selection of staff; trains assigned staff in court and related security procedures. Evaluates employee performance and effectively recommends employee selection, initial disciplinary action and other personnel actions. Monitors scanning equipment, books, prisoners at the security gate or in court as directed. Maintains procedures to protect the safety of the judges and the court's property, protects all court personnel, attorneys and visitors in the courts. Calls court to order and maintains appropriate decorum in court whenever court is in session. Ensures potential witnesses are separated from jurors prior to and throughout trial. Takes emergency action and/or notified emergency personnel as the situation warrants; may administer basic first aid or CPR if required. Assists transportation officers in moving detainees to and from the courtroom, holding cells and vehicles. Acts as liaison between the judge, attorneys, courtroom staff and the public in order to ensure the orderly conduct of court business. Contributes to the overall quality of the court's service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures. Opens and locks secured areas and facilities; sets up courtroom for operation. May execute warrants of arrest as assigned. May perform general office support work, deliver or pick-up documents and other materials and assist the judge in other ways as instructed.PHYSICAL DEMANDSMobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, strength to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
