Classroom Expectations
Algebra II Pre-AP
Mrs. Dooley 2017 - 2018
Welcome! Algebra II Pre-AP is an advanced math class designed to prepare college-bound students to take Pre-Calculus and Calculus. Since it is an advanced class, the assignments are more rigorous and we will study topics at a more in-depth level. Tests will also be challenging and more comprehensive.
The following is general information on supplies, grading policies, and classroom procedures.
You will need: paper, pencil, any color pen for grading,
and a 3-ring binder to organize your work.

Grading Policy
Nine Weeks grades will be determined as follows:
40% Daily Work / Quizzes
40% Major Tests
20% Nine Weeks Test / Benchmark
Note-taking skills will be reinforced and necessary in order to be successful in my class. Class notes, including example problems worked during class, are to be written down daily. Examples are given in order to make homework easier to complete.
Class assignments will be given daily. These assignments vary in length, but students should expect to spend an average of 30-45 minutes a night. Homework (learning exercises) will be checked daily for completion (five hw completion checks will equal one grade). All work should be done in pencil. Students should show work to receive full credit for each problem. Additional daily grades include quizzes and in-class work.
Tests: Tests will be given at the end of each unit of study. Tests will be announced in advance and may contain information from chapters previously covered. If a student fails a test, an opportunity to re-test will be given to raise grade. Before re-testing, a student must attend tutorials. This needs to be done in a timely manner.
Nine Weeks Test / Benchmark Test: A nine weeks test or benchmark may be given for each grading period.
Semester Exams: A semester exam will be given at the end of each semester and will account for 10% of the semester grade. A semester exam schedule will be provided by the administrators.
General Classroom Rules
Three Rules:
1. Respect Yourself
2. Respect others
3. Respect your school
Absences:
If you are absent, you need to check the homework board for missed assignments and check with your classmates for other missed information. If you have questions, I will be happy to help you before or after school. You will have one day for every day you were absent to turn in missed assignments. If you miss a test, you are required to make it up within three days of your return to class. This will need to be done either before or after school so that no additional class time is missed. For planned ( including extracurricular activities) absences, students will make prior contact and arrangements for missed or upcoming assignments and those assignments will be due upon return to school.
Math Club:
Our school has a very active math club where students are challenged on several competitive tests. These include Texas State Math League, SAT contests, and American Math Exam. This does not require time outside of the regular school day. College bound students are strongly encouraged to join the club (small cost) and participate in these contests. This also gives the student a chance to earn extra credit points based on his/her score.
Tutorials: I am available for help after school on most days. You are welcome to attend any math teacher’s tutorials if needed. There will be math teachers available before and after school!
I have read the classroom expectations for Mrs. Dooley’s Algebra II Pre-AP class and understand that I am responsible for following the outlined policies.
