Educational Absence Forms are located in the Front Office or Guidance Office and need to be returned five (5) school days prior to the requested absence. Educational absences are absences from class and are included in the (10) absences allowed per class. Only juniors and seniors are allowed two college visits per semester to be counted as educational. Documentation (dated letter) from the college/university is required when the student returns to school.CMS/STATE ATTENDANCE-Parents and guardians are responsible for seeing that their children attend school each day it is in session, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education Policy and the Compulsory Attendance Law (GS-115C-378). Under this law, the parent may be prosecuted in a criminal action if a student under the age of 16 has ten (10) unlawful absences. A notification letter is sent by certified mail stating that legal action will be taken when a student has reached this absence level.RECOVERY- High school students accumulating more than ten (10) absences, excused or unexcused per class for a 4x4 course or an A day B day may receive a grade of “F” for the course according to district policy. The student is given an opportunity to recover these absences with the individual teacher or through possible school-wide attendance recovery. Teachers will notify the student when RECOVERY becomes necessary. RECOVERY is strictly between the student and teacher, not the attendance office or administration.FIELD TRIPS- If a student is on a field trip with the school, this is an authorized absence and the student is counted present for the part of the school day the trip occurs.AN ABSENCE COUNTS AS AN ABSENCE NO MATTER IF IT IS EXCUSED OR UNEXCUSED. ................
