CLASS TITLE: College and Career Coach

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To help students make more informed and better educational and career choices by offering information on high school course offerings, career options, the type of academic and occupational training need to succeed in the workplace, and postsecondary opportunities that are associated with their field of interest, and by providing teachers, administrators, and parents with information they can use to support students’ career exploration and postsecondary educational opportunities

BASIC REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

❖ Implements all rules and regulations, policies and administrative guidelines as adopted by the Board of Education and the School SBDM Council.

❖ Develops a process and procedure for planning, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive developmental program of college and career guidance and counseling.

❖ Advises students and parents on school programs and academic curriculum, preparing them for college application and admission.

❖ Arranges dual/concurrent enrollment and Advanced Placement credits to prepare students for the rigor of postsecondary education.

❖ Plans and prepares for college admissions tests.

❖ Informs students about postsecondary financing that can be used to support advanced education and training.

❖ Help students develop career portfolios, including test and grade results, examples of student work and resumes and cover letters to prospective employers.

❖ Coordinates a variety of events and programs (e.g. student assessments, career fairs, college visits, field trips, student placement and follow-up, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the smooth transition to postsecondary training and/or employment.

❖ Arrange job shadowing, work placements, and community-based learning programs to allow students to directly experience workplace situations.

❖ Work with administration to host workshops, classes, and presentations that focus on job skills and personal development as needed.

❖ Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops, and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions of position.

❖ Provide specialized counseling services to provide students with individualized attention.

❖ Functions in a cooperative process to assist others to effectively meet the needs of students, and through consultation, advocates for students.

❖ Functions as a coordinator in bringing together people and resources in the school, the community, and the district for the fullest academic and career development of the students.

❖ Compiles data from a variety of sources for the purpose of evaluating program success and/or complying with financial, legal, administrative, and state/federal monitoring requirements.

❖ Acts within legal and ethical guidelines to accomplish educational purposes.

❖ Provides professional leadership within the school, community, and education profession to improve student learning and well being.

❖ Evaluates his or her own overall performance in relation to Kentucky’s learner goals and implements a professional development plan.

❖ Uses technology to support instruction; access and manipulate data; enhance professional growth and productivity; communicate and collaborate with colleagues, parents, and the community; and conduct research.

❖ Performs related duties as assigned.

❖ Maintains a professional and appropriate appearance.

❖ Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

❖ Adheres to the professional code of ethics.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

-Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required.

-Valid Kentucky Teacher, Counselor, or Administrative Certification and/or minimum of two years experience with postsecondary advising/counseling experience preferred.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
